May 1, 2011 at 8:13 pm #389344Thanks for your PM.
If you now look atr your page you will see it is sort of running but with loads of errors. This is because almost every folder on your system is unwritable by the script. Your best bet here is to speak to your host and get them to CHOWN (make sure you state that term) all of your files and folders to something writable by the script. You could try simply enabling the Joomla ftp layer first to see if that works.
To see an example of what folders are unwritable go the the Joomla back end and click on the Help>System Info menu, Then click on the Directory Permissions tab and you will see nothing is writable.
PS, looking at your PHP info you seem to have set upload max filesize to 5000M, this really is too high and will cause you problems in the future.

May 1, 2011 at 9:47 pm #389351Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
I still have several questions:
1. Can you be specific about the actions you took in order to resolve the issue?
2. Can you please explain why the directory permissions caused this issue? I ask you this, because the the other templates run fine, in addition all folders where in 755 mode, meaning they were OK-never had this issue with fresh Joomla install.
3. What is ‘upload max filesize set to 5000M’Cheers

May 1, 2011 at 10:09 pm #3893521, while the template is running the issue is not resolved. Many folders need to be writable for many reasons. If they are not images cannot be upload or resized, settings cannot be saved and many other things beside. The layout simply will not work unless those unwritable errors are corrected.
2. Teline is creating a lot of resized images and also doing a lot more besides such as creating a cached version of your CSS. Due to the fact that is was trying to do all that for so long php was just complaining. You still have errors that need to be corrected and I am convinced it is an ownership issue rather than file permissions. If you have root access then the chown command will fix all. Some cpanels allow you to change ownership. Or try enabling the FTP layer as the files/folders may be owned by the FTP user.
3. Upload max file size is a setting in php that tells the system the maximum of file a script is allowed to upload. A quick chat with uncle google will reveal why you should not have it set so high.

May 2, 2011 at 7:24 am #389375Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
1.Before I gave you admin access, the site did not show at all or it showed with an error message. Could you please be specific about the actions you took the caused the site to load (even with errors)?
2. Your section 1 reply answers section 2 of my question  However, could you please explain what is the ‘ownership issue’ you mentioned?
3. Tnx:laugh:
Cheers,
Tamirzzz

May 2, 2011 at 4:15 pm #3894521. All I did was disable CSS and us compression then disabled the twitter mod. That at least got the template running, just with the permissions errors you see.
2. Ownership is a very complicated thing. Try the FTP layer first then think about ownership. Apache can assign different permissions to special groups and if you put your files and folders into the correct group then you can have a more secure system Thant setting all the files to 755 etc. It would take a long time to explain it all and google has plenty of tutorials on this. Your host should very quickly be able to help plus it is in their interests for you to have your site setup in their recommended way for security.

May 2, 2011 at 5:43 pm #389472Hi Phill,
Thank you for your reply.
Could you please explain section 1 in details ?
In addition, since I have installed other JA templates (such as JA Ores, JA Seleni) on the server and it was piece of cake without the need of extra configuration, could you please explain what made this template unique in the sense it requied so much settings? :-*
Cheers

May 2, 2011 at 6:07 pm #389475Is there anything else to explain in section 1? CSS and JS optimisation are in the template manager in the global tab, I just set them to “No”.
I have no idea why you files and folders are unwritable. That is nothing to do with the template. If you unzipped it on your desktop and uploaded all the files then for some reason your server set the permissions. All your joomla files are unwritable and many must be writable. The problem is obvious from the directory permissions page in Joomla.
If you unzipped directly on the server then there is a chance that the permissions were inherited from our zip, if that is the case I will report as much to the devs.

May 6, 2011 at 10:04 am #390097Phill,
Thank you for your help.
I need to get this issue straight:
1. I have installed a fresh Joomla install and installed template JA Seleni-everything went well. Now I tried to install JA Teline IV and all the problems the started this discussion emereged again . What is the difference between the two templates?!
2. Should I change folder permission back to 775?
The reason why I asked you this question is because I am concerned about the stablility of this template. This is because I believe that if this template required so many settings and alteration, it may crush on live site. Could you please enlighten me?
Thanks again,
Tamirzzz

May 6, 2011 at 11:09 am #390106JA Selini and Teline IV are vey different beasts. While Selini is a small package Teline is not nad has meany advanced features. The above are not modifications but small adjustments to get around the limitations on your server. I have installed Teline IV on many hosts and it is rare to encounter problems such as yours. When we do they are alsways down to limits imposed by the host.

Thank you for your reply.
Based on my server limitations, do you think this template is stable enough to be used on live site?!!
Should I change folder permission back to 775?
Cheers

May 10, 2011 at 5:12 pm #390621The template is stable enough, you will need to adjust permissions however and for how to set those best for your setup your host will be the best people to advise.

May 14, 2011 at 9:18 am #391205Phill,
This has nothing to do with my host. According to Joomla, all file folder permissions should be changed to 775 (Plz have a look here).
My question is: Should my Joomla file folders be manually changed to 775 without damaging the funcionallity of the template?
Thanks

May 15, 2011 at 8:51 am #391287It has everything to do with your host. Those settings are just recommendations. Joomla.org cannot know how your host choose to set various security settings on their setup. It gets even more complicated where selinux is concerned but that is getting far too deep here. Well done on doing some research though.
Linux permissions are a huge subject. I’ve just been on a 1 week course just on that subject alone. Once again, my recommendation here is to speak to your host. Setting everything to 755 should not break anything but it is almost certainly not the most secure method but once again it is all dependant on your host.
