I have installed the quickstart package for Joomla 1.5.3.
Everything looks very good (had to give 777 access via FTP to images folder to get ride of error messages – I guess you don’t fully support the FTP layer yet).

When I set the Template width parameter to Auto, the Hot Topic articles are messed up.
The image stays the same size as before but the text overlay expands.
Is this a known case?
Are there any fixes that can be applied?

I would say yes, this would be normal, since the images in the quick start is made in a fixed width.
Hovewer, you can try to add a wider image and see if you get any errors?
