I’m off to see the prodigy tonight, so I thought I’d check out their website for the first time in ages.. and what did I find but JA Zinc.

and a pirated copy of it too it seems.

I’ll be seeing them in June supporting Oasis in front 100,000 people in Slane.

how can you tell it’s pirated?

    Why? because…

    • The user who downloaded that copy of zinc has posted 4 times in the forum and has very poor English. Strange for a British band to go abroad for web design.
    • The user has only asked one question on the forum and that was how to change the text colour. Again, very strange that a web designer of this obvious skill level would ask such a very basic question.
    • The user in question has no less than 2158, yes that’s 2158, downloads from Joomlart. This again is a sign that the user is downloading more than they need with the purpose of ‘sharing’.
    • The User ID data has been removed from most of the files. This is almost always a sign that the template was taken from an illegal source. They left the user ID in in one of the files and that’s how I know who originally downloaded this template from JA.

You can draw your own conclusions but I’d bet my house on it being used illegally.

Having said that, I would say that 9 out of 10 Joomlart templates that I come across online are pirated. It’s a major major problem for any company selling Digital products and a problem they can do little or nothing about. JA did try to introduce the ‘call home’ function’ but it was not received well by the paid members. I wonder how many of you have checked your 3rd party mods and coms for ‘call home’?

I see the piratebay founders were jailed today and fined $4.5M , but again this will do NOTHING to stem the problem. It’s just too big. Look at youtube.com. 90% of the content is copyright infringment.

With many of the sites offering club templates illegally , including Joomlart templates, you could quiet easily innocently download and use the templates without even realising you were doing anything illegal.
