    Hi aleksi2004,

What is your current database collation? latin1_swedish_ci is most likely the MySQL default whereas Joomla! requires a UTF-8 encoding. On the other hand, some locales such yours may need to use something different that UTF-8 to work properly.

It’s generally recommended to use “utf8_general_ci” collation. ( You can use 3rd party tool or ask your hosting provider to change for you).

    Hi!

I have set up an English site and translated it to Russian – and got all ???? ????? as described here in the forum.

The database collation is set to utf8_general_ci

Some suggest to change to koi8r_general_ci

But then, what will happen to the English texts?

    Thanx for all help

@norchris: Before switching to koi8r_general_ci, you can try to install the latest update of Russia language package on your current Joomla and try to create a Content Language for these Russia texts.
