September 22, 2008 at 4:45 am #133579I am interested to know, and this will be helpful also to all Joomla 1.5.x-Teline II users: Are the files included in the directories provided here:
Teline II Patch Update for Joomla 1.5.xPlease access via FTP to check specific directories and files that were fixed. From the changelog, only nine (9) files were affected and fixed, three of them are helper.files — some of them have multiple modifications. Some files fixed may not have been included because the latest Teline II for Joomla 1.5.x changelog did not provide sufficient information to identify the files and the directories.
http://joomlabs:@joomla.bayanihan-saranay.com/public_html/teii-fixes/
to view the directories and files. Sorry, I do not have the tools (with my old mac notebook) to create zip files.
Hypothetically, if a complete Teline II Patch Update for Joomla 1.5.x is prepared, as suggested in previous threads and the example above, it should be possible to update any previous version of Teline II to the latest version.
Using such a Teline II Patch Update for Joomla 1.5.x all that would be needed is to download a zip file version, unpack and upload. And, it is done, in just a few minutes, with lesser possibilities of committing errors. No need to perform the complex “uninstall-install” process. [Visit previous threads for possible complications, errors and the amount of time spent to perform the “uninstall-install” process).]
Request: Can a Joomlart staff prepare a zip file, if the above is a complete Teline II Patch Update for Joomla 1.5.x?
Thanks.
Cornelio

September 26, 2008 at 12:56 pm #272468How to update a module:
When you are going to update a module, as long as you dont upload the xml file for the module(all settings is stored there) you should not run into any problem just upload all files exept the xml file. In some cases there might have been changes in the xml file so if you upload the xml file all settings is restored to original again.
when it comes to the template itself.
The only files YOU as a user have made any changes in(layout and color changes) is in the index.php and template.css file for the template. All files exept index.php and template.css is safe to overwrite with new files. Then again, it is up to you as a user to keep track on which changes you have done in the index.php and template.css file when you are going to update the template to a new version:)

This is a different story with templates. The goal of the template patch update — because it is more complex than the standard module — is to avoid the “uninstall — install” procedure because it is not only very complex but prone to errors.

Thankfully, Hainn and Joomlart staff have done a good job more recently by providing a number of the files that were fixed in the numerous versions (patches for Teline II), but unfortunately, not all of the files that were fixed were identified.

It is the files that were fixed by Joomlart that were not identified that becomes the problem.
For example in the latest changelog for Teline II:
Some information for the files with bugs were provided:
-------------------- 1.6 Stable Release ---------------------
22-Aug-2008# Fixed : smarttrim error : trim <br /> tag in content.
Reference : http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/ja-news-bug-strikes-back-br-problem-again-on-ja-news/
29-Aug-2008# Fixed : Highslide on safari ( when click links on youtube msodule , safari is closed )
Add file : templates/ja_teline_ii/highslide/highslide-full.js
Update File : templates/ja_teline_ii/highslide/swfobject.js
templates/ja_teline_ii/index.php
templates/ja_teline_ii/templateDetails.xml
# Fixed : Show read more of JA news don't work
Update file : modules/mod_janews/tmpl/blog_item.php
# Fixed : Show Category (Section) title don't work
Update file : modules/mod_janews/tmpl/blog_item.php
# Fixed : Path of image resize is incorrect in Linux server (ja_news)
File update : modules/mod_janews/helper.php
# Fixed : In a content has more one image , JA news , JA News FP and ja_catslwi always get last image. They don't get first image.
Reference : http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/customization-for-ja-lens-template-needed/#post-267715
Update file: modules/mod_janews/helper.php
modules/mod_janews_fp/helper.php
modules/mod_ja_catslwi/helper.php
as a result, with the above information, all one has to do is copy all the fixed files as indicated, and then just upload those files. Quite easily done . [QED]
If all the above were the only bugs and files fixed for Teline II, then there would be no problem. However, how would someone know (and update) the files fixed for the following bugs that were fixed?
16-Aug-2008# Update Youtube highslide module
19-Aug-2008
# Update New version for JA News
19-Aug-2008
# Update New version for JA News
22-Aug-2008
# Fixed : youtube not working with highslide in IE
12-Sep-2008

October 5, 2008 at 2:06 pm #273896Well said Cornelio.
Also, some extensions have properties where you could configure. When you update or reinstall with new version, they will be reset or totally gone.
It is not just index and css.
Goodluck to you man. I hope you could get the support you are looking for from joomlart.
