Anyone aware of an existing mod that displays the Top Ten forum topics? It would go into the right column in place of, let’s say, the statistics mod in the JA Larix template.

It depends on the forum. There are a few at http://extensions.joomla.org

Do you mean SMF, phpBB2 or 3, vBulletin, IPB or something else?

I’m guessing SMF would be the more common one. It is the one I’m considering. Of course recommendations are welcome at this point.

I got my modules for SMF from http://extensions.joomla.org/

There is an issue right now about the Joomla bridge support for SMF, especially in relation to Joomla 1.5

    Any resolution to this issue?

Well, RocketWerx is developing a bridge for phpBB3 and J!1.5 which is about 70% done according some posts from Joomla!

As phpbb is GPL, no issues – woot woot

I do belive fireboard also have a “top poster” module of some kind. They have quite a few modules around. Personally I think this is the absolute best forum available.

Looks good but I don’t see an installation guide for fireboard other than to upgrade a previous. Any idea where I could find one. I already install both the Fireboard component as well as the Latest Post module but that is pretty much where I’m stuck. This is my first setup as a forum so I’m probably messing it all up. Any help is appreciated.

For Fireboard issues I would recommend you read the FAQ’s on their site and also post in their forums as you will get far faster, better and more detailed support for it over there. 🙂

Basically it is just like any Joomla component. After installing you can go to “Components” and then Fireboard and configure it the way you like ( setting template, adding sections, user administration and so on )

Again, please visit their forum and search around there a bit, I do seem to remember there are quite a lot of information and also very helpful people in the forums.

I would say Fireboad is for smaller sites myself, it is not where near as powerful as the ones I posted.

@muffin ( you get me hungry each time I see your nick )

Yes, you might be right in assuming that. I haven’t tested the others as much as I have not yet had the use for “10.000” visitors board yet. Most likely you are right but then again, how many people actually have that large forums. hehe.. Ok, maybe a lot. I don’t know.

    Hehe,

Well, I am have not seen a large scale FB site. However, its not about it handling the number of members but the features it has to control and maintain the forum.

SMF, for example, has a plethora of options available to control the forum to maintain a “good” atmosphere. FB could prove an issue in that regard with its lack of features for control.

That is the only thing that rests in my mind as I think of large forums as support forums which need control.
