Hello,
I have changed my domain name so I had to upload the backup files to the new site. I ended up having issues. The website is completely missed up. Even after enabling the modules. I don’t know what’s wrong in what I did. I am not really good at this.
My question is:
* Is it wrong to upload the back files instead of the new installation? If not …
* How do I make it all exactly as I had it before on the old website?
* What exactly are the folders that I need to copy in order to have all that changes I already made?I just don’t want to make all the changes I made previously. It just takes time. If you have a solution for me, please let me know.
Thank you.

Hi Yousuf
I find it easiest to use a component called Akeeba backup to backup your entire site then upload the jpa backup file to an empty folder at your new host and restore the site complete with database as it existed on your old site. Generally it will create a db of the same name for youAkeeba backup and user guide and other necessary items to perform the backup and restoration automatically can be found here http://www.akeebabackup.com/
If you have difficulties PM me and I’ll tell you how I do it step by step etc

June 14, 2010 at 8:52 am #346988Just follow Shannon’s advice and you will be doing great. Just to mention, the files you need to copy are all the files in public_html. What I have done in the past is, using Cpanel, make a zip and copy the sip file of all my files to the new domain. Then I use phpmyadmin to first export the database from the old site, and again phpmyadmin to import the database to the new site. Uzing a zip is so much faster than tryong to copy the site file by file.
I have not used Akeeba backup, but I will install it on my sites.
