I´ve read some threads about translation of headers, Footer & Text that on the JA TELINE III Template, that does not recognizes language pack installed, so changes have to be made on different files … however, due to new versions some of the tips here do not apply any longer.
So, I need help on how to translate Headers, Footer & Text on modules that do not recognize language pack installed (on the latest template version released). You may take as a basis the FrontPage for Demo Site.
I need to translate to Spanish.
Thanks in advance for your help !

April 21, 2010 at 3:58 pm #341099Headers – current date and last updated could be changed using this hack.
Footer – is managed from menu, template lang. file.
Module titles – that’s text set by Joomla (module’s back-end). Text within modules – respective lang. file have to be created.

Thanks … but hack you mentioned does not support UTF-8 and I need that since this is for Spanish language.Regarding Footer … I don´t understand what you mean by “menu, template lang. file”
where is it or what do you mean by that?I tried to edit “mod_footer” at Joomla´s ADMIN, but it only explains what it does, but no parameters or chance to edit.

April 22, 2010 at 4:36 am #341133The hack is supportin UTF8 as is based on native Joomla lang. files.
mod_footer… do you have a special module for the site footer? Or it’s mod_custom placed on footer position?
Any extension in Joomla potentially support multi-language feature (module, plugin, component). If an extension does not, it easily could be update to support.
Moreover, there are special 3rd party extensions helping in this area..

April 23, 2010 at 3:52 am #341286Dear paellas!
You make your customization in this file:
templatesja_teline_iiilayoutsblocksheader.php
replace the following code:
[PHP]
<p class=”ja-day”>
<?php
echo “<span class=”day”>”.date (‘l’).”</span>”;
echo “<span class=”date”>, “.date (‘M’).” “.date (‘d’).date (‘S’).”</span>”;
?>
</p>
[/PHP]Good luck

April 23, 2010 at 5:25 am #341296find in templatesja_teline_iiilayoutsblocksheader.php
<p class="ja-day">
<?php
setlocale(LC_TIME, "de_DE");
echo strftime(" %A, %d. %B %Y n");
?>
</p>
replace with
<p class="ja-day">

</p>
April 23, 2010 at 5:51 am #341299Thanks….
It seems that Template TELINE III is not translation ready …
The Template does not meet these standards:
http://docs.joomla.org/Language_Guidelines_for_3rd_Party_ExtensionsI can´t find a way to translate … the codes you provide do not translate into Spanish …
I am not that savy on PHP … so I don´t understand abbreviations etc…Is there a file where I may just translate a Table for the Template?

I did replace that … and nothing happens …Headers remain in English.

April 26, 2010 at 4:12 am #341559Dear
Here is other solution:
– Joomla supports this translate in each language. you should check your_language_code.ini in languages/your_language_code folder, find following code section (example: in english language, en-GB.ini file):# Date format
[PHP]
DATE_FORMAT_LC=%A, %d %B %Y
DATE_FORMAT_LC1=%A, %d %B %Y
DATE_FORMAT_LC2=%A, %d %B %Y %H:%M
DATE_FORMAT_LC3=%d %B %Y
DATE_FORMAT_LC4=%d.%m.%y
DATE_FORMAT_JS1=y-m-d
%Y-%M-%D=%Y-%m-%d
%A, %B %E=%A, %B %e
[/PHP]
# Months
[PHP]
JANUARY_SHORT=Jan
JANUARY=January
FEBRUARY_SHORT=Feb
FEBRUARY=February
MARCH_SHORT=Mar
MARCH=March
APRIL_SHORT=Apr
APRIL=April
MAY_SHORT=May
MAY=May
JUNE_SHORT=Jun
JUNE=June
JULY_SHORT=Jul
JULY=July
AUGUST_SHORT=Aug
AUGUST=August
SEPTEMBER_SHORT=Sep
SEPTEMBER=September
OCTOBER_SHORT=Oct
OCTOBER=October
NOVEMBER_SHORT=Nov
NOVEMBER=November
DECEMBER_SHORT=Dec
DECEMBER=December
[/PHP]
#Days of the Week
[PHP]
SAT=Sat
SATURDAY=Saturday
SUN=Sun
SUNDAY=Sunday
MON=Mon
MONDAY=Monday
TUE=Tue
TUESDAY=Tuesday
WED=Wed
WEDNESDAY=Wednesday
THU=Thu
THURSDAY=Thursday
FRI=Fri
FRIDAY=Friday
#Other Calendar
(TODAY)= (Today)
[/PHP]
If your file is not exist the left text of equal sign, you add the code above into your website and then translate the right text of equal sign to your language.

OK. Yes there is the es_ES.ini file for Spanish with all the code you described above, already translated.
So … what should I do now … the sw is not reading it …
Which is the next step?

I have the idea there is some confusion in this thread – I hope I don’t make it worse by trying to clarify.
Ther original code in file layouts/blocks/header.php reads:
<p class="ja-day">
<?php
echo "<span class="day">".date ('l')."</span>";
echo "<span class="date">, ".date ('M')." ".date ('d').date ('S')."</span>";
?>
</p>So it is this code which you have to replace by the lines you found yourself:
Hope this helps.
Good luck,

April 26, 2010 at 10:01 pm #341694Thanks Micrantha … your response helped me understand, so I changed conde as advised and not it works. Also, thanks to tienhc and all others.
Now … that only changed the DATE field at the Header.
So now … how to proceed with translation for:
* Last Update (Time & Time-Zone)
* Headlines (Label only, the headlines that showup are already in Spanish)
* Features
* Tool
* MemberAnd Footer … the text …
Thanks in advance for your help.
