Hi all!
I followed the instructions for JA Erica to install JA Newslight and can’t get it figured out. I’d like my site to look as much like the demo as possible.
The URL is http://www.wannabehealthnut.com. The only changes I’ve made are to the images. I tried adding new positions like the JA Erica guide describes, but did not see the options like the guide described. I’m using Joomla 1.5. Please let me know what other information you need.
Thank you in advance!
B
Edit: Ok, it appears that it’s not calling the CSS, even though I set it to do so. Any ideas?
Edit: Anyone???
June 24, 2008 at 8:50 pm #255903Ok, now I KNOW I installed this correctly. I have my article pointed to the correct category, but Newslight isn’t seeing it, therefore it isn’t showing. Can someone please reply? Not to be pushy, but I need some customer service! 🙂

June 25, 2008 at 2:51 am #255962why not install the quickstart and then everything will be all setup for you and you can just replace the demo content with your own.
June 25, 2008 at 1:21 pm #256113I tried that. I’m gettng this error:
Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package. What am I doing incorrectly?
Thanks!

June 25, 2008 at 2:12 pm #256128quickstart is a full joomla install with the template and demo content
if you use cpanel.
make a new database
up load the quickstart zip to the server
unzip the quickstart
run the installationdone
June 25, 2008 at 2:35 pm #256132I don’t use cpanel. Can I FTP it and do the same thing?
Edit: I tried uploading the zipped Quickstart to my webspace, then tried to install via the install URL. Got the same error.
Thanks in advance for the help. I’m not a total newbie to Joomla, but I feel like one today!

June 25, 2008 at 4:10 pm #256153When you download the erica files, you need to unzip the file and you will find a template.zip, source.zip and quickstart.zip in that file you downloaded. If you uploaded the file with the other zips in it you will get the error you saw.
you can unzip the quickstart file locally and than manually upload everything via ftp and then navigate to the install.
how are you creating databases if you don’t have cpanel or plesk?

June 25, 2008 at 4:14 pm #256156Hmmm…I am using 1and1. I am using 1and1’s MySQL manager to create my databases. I actually have another Joomla site that I created this way with no problem.
Edit: I completely uninstalled Joomla and I’m starting over with QuickStart. It’s uploading via FTP right now. I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks for all your help!
June 25, 2008 at 6:05 pm #256196Ok, so I got everything up ang going, but I can’t see the big beautiful headings in newslight like on the demo. In my browser (Firefox 3) they are small and dark blue. How do I change that?

June 25, 2008 at 6:33 pm #256201sorry, i don’t remember as the newlight didn’t meet my needs and I disabled it and handcoded what I needed.
FYI: the way that 1and1 handles databases will cause issues as you get more involved with joomla and other cms’s. Baisic site is not a problem. They keep them on a separate server and encrypt them which is fine, but their security measures when dealing with mysql causes issues with some functionality.

June 25, 2008 at 6:37 pm #256202Ah, well it all seems to have worked fine except for the lovely headings in newslight. I even got some of the images changed.
My problem was that I didn’t realize that the Quickstart files also included Joomla, and Joomla is installed that way. I’m good now, but I’d love some help with the headings, if possible!
Thanks!
