Is there any easy and simply way to remove Teline III and everything (modules, plugins etc.) from this template after moving to Teline IV?

Not sure I understand your question . . . did you already install Teline IV in a separate folder?
I mean, all you would really need to do is wipe clean your Teline III install and then install Teline IV (with its’ own database and such).Or, are you referring to MIGRATING your content from your Teline III based site onto a new Teline IV based install ??
September 4, 2011 at 7:54 pm #410552OK. First we were building our site with Teline III, later we have decided to install Teline IV and now this is our default template. Of course Teline IV is in in a separate folder, other than Teline III.

September 4, 2011 at 9:14 pm #410583Hi
For a way:
– Install new Teline IV quickstart
– drop contents table ( categories / sections / content … )
– drop table users
– Restore these table from db of site using teline III.
– So now you are using Teline IV with content from Teline III. Of course you’ll need lots of configs update π
Thank you
Viet VuSeptember 4, 2011 at 10:49 pm #410594I’m afraid you don’t understand me… My site is working with Teline IV now. But I want to remove Teline III template. Teline III was our first template.
I can send you as private message with all information for logging to our site and admin. Maybe it will help you to understand our problem better… Is it OK?

To remove your Teline III template, you simply delete the files from your server – and make sure your url points to the folder you have your Teline IV files installed. (I assume you have correctly redirected your domain url already, as you state that you are already using your Teline IV based website – correct?)September 5, 2011 at 12:05 am #410606After I have deleted “old” menus it was possible to uninstall Teline III with Extensions Manager/Manage/Uninstall. Earlier (before deleting unnecessary menus) it was impossible.
Thanks for help.TomC ModeratorTomC

I guess I’m really not understanding what it is you are trying to do. As I understand your situation . . .1. You had been operating a site based on Teline III
2. You decided to use Teline IV and uploaded the Teline IV template files to a separate folder on your server
3. You customized your new Teline IV site – including content and menus – accordingly.
4. You pointed your url to the new Teline IV based site
5. You now want to delete/remove your previous Teline III template files – which are in a separate folder on your server than your Teline IV files.
Did I get the progression roadmap correct? If not, please correct where I am mistaken so that, perhaps, your particular situation may become a bit clearer.
THANKS !!!
September 5, 2011 at 6:50 pm #410814Hi TomC!
1) You are right at point 1. But laterβ¦
2) No. We have installed Teline IV as another template in our site via Extension Manager: Install β exactly as others templates we were testing earlier with our site. After installation we have made Teline IV as a default template. Later we have made all necessary configuration, because module positions, menus itc. in Teline III nad Teline IV are different. There was only one site with varoius temlates installed (the same like we have a few templates after Joomla installation). So there were no new Teline IV based site. All the time it was the same site.
3) When we saw that our site is working well, we decided to uninstall Teline III via Extensions Manager/Manage/Uninstall, but we couldn’t because there were some styles assigned with Teline III. Earlier we have checked all modules, menu positions itc. to be sure that they are not in Teline III “Template Style”. But we still couldn’t uninstall Teline III. All the time “something” was assigned to Teline III styles.
Everything has changed when we have deleted all menus, without those working in Teline IV. Finally after this it was possible to uninstall Teline III. And in this moment all module positions typical for Teline III also disappeared from list for module positions.
We were afraid to delete folder with Teline III via FTP because we were unsure if our site will survive this. We were also afraid that some unnecessary files will remain in another folders. So this is why we were trying to uninstall Teline III with Joomla Extension Manager.
And this is it π

September 5, 2011 at 7:05 pm #410817So it is solve then. Excellent.
For future reference befre you make any major changes such as this please get yourself a copy of akeeba backup – https://www.akeebabackup.com/
This free extension will allow you to make a complete backup of your entire site including the database so if you do mess things up you can restore your site in just a few minutes.
Another use for Akeeba is to take a copy of your site for installing and testing elsewhere. I tende to make a backup of my site using this tool and put it on my localhost running WAMP. I can then experiment to my hearts content on my local machine with no fear of messing up my live site.

September 5, 2011 at 7:59 pm #410828Thanks Phil.
I have heard about Akeeba Backup. Finally I have to find some time to understand this tool π You know I’m journalist who is trying to “create and administrate” Joomla based portal. Many things in Joomla and Teline IV still is like black magic for me π
And English language isn’t my native language… This is why sometimes I’m using not “enough precise” words to describe my problem. Now I see that word “moving” in subject of this thread could have made some mess here. Now I think that I should use words “β¦ after switching to Teline IV” or “β¦ after making Teline IV as default template”. π

September 5, 2011 at 8:47 pm #410833It is OK, I understood exactly what you meant. I am in the lucky position that I have worked all over Europe in a support role so have had many years of reading about problems written in “English” so I am quite adept at looking for the meanings in translated sentences. Actually, I think your English is quite good.
Akeeba is actually quite simple and really something every Joomla Admin should know and use. Installation is the same as any component. Then a single click will make a backup of your site. It really is that simple.
Restoring it the more complex bit. However anyone that can install Joomla will be able to install from an Akeeba backup.
Have you ever tried using your local machine for testing web stuff? If not get yourself a copy of WAMP – http://www.wampserver.com/en/ and install it on your windows machine (other similar programs are available for MAC or Linux). Once you have it installed any folder you create WAMPs www folder will become a new website. So for instance if you create a folder in www/your_website when you then browse to http:localhost/your_website you would see your website.
So a simple thing to then do is copy the file akeeba generates from your host inteo the new www/your_website folder
If you then also copy the kickstart.php file (available for free from the akeeba site) into that folfer with theakeeba backup file we just put there (ends in .jpa) and then follow the on screen installer you will find that in under 5 minutes you will have an exact copy of your live site on your desktop.
It really is that simple and I am sure you can work out all the advantages of doing this.
As for being a journalist I really do know what you mean as a part time photographer myself. Time is very short for learning things like this. But having a local copy will actually save you a lot of time in the long run and the effort to learn it really is small.
