When the thumbnails load in the “portfolio” section, there is a blue dot and text saying “photo thumb”. It is really undesirable. How can I remove that?

I have clear cached from Admin area of your site and check the problem as you mentioned but I could not find it, you can check on your site again, let me know if you still face the same the problem

once it loads, it’s fine. The text appears when it is loading. How can I remove that text so people will slower connections do not see it?

You are looking at the front slide show on the “home page” Which is slideshow lite. I am talking about the slideshows in the “portfolio section.

I have removed “Photo Thumb” and “bullet icon” in the thumbnail of your site. You can check it again let me know the result.
