    Hi

I am using the theme Teline V4 on a Joomla 1.5 CMS. I now need to update to a 2.5 CMS as my website keeps getting hacked.
the issue is I have a blog that receives well over 30,000 unique visitors a month and I have a hell of a lot of content.

What I would like to do is

    1. Update the CMS to 2.5
    2. Update Teline V4 to the 2.5 version
    3. Not lose any of my websites content.

This is a very urgent issue as my site has been compromised and I need to update to a more secure CMS as soon as possible.

    Thanks in Advance

    Hi mathewlewis,

Migrating Joomla website to newer Joomla! version is one of complex Joomla developments. The most important step You need to do before migrating is BACKING UP all databases & modified changes of your site. Because when you upgrade to new Joomla version, the database will be overridden by default. In addition, when you upgrade Joomla 2.5 successfully, one extension You need to upgrade is our JA Teline IV for J.2.5. And your template modified changes will overriden too >> Remember to Backup first of all.
You can follow this below tutorial for migrating from J!1.5 to J!2.5.

Hi – I am in the middle of this exact process and finally have the site up in J2.5.
I created a new “test” site in a sub-directory and did all my transfers to there – this will be then renamed to the old folder of the original j1.5 and settings changed to reflect the folder change in config etc.
Be warned, not all will go as planned but it can be done. Im still refining the new site, but I am up and ready to switch the new 2.5 site back on over the next day or so.
    1 backup the old site
2 I ended up not using JUPGRADEPRO – I found that I could not get it to work and when it did it created errors.
Some swear by it – but many have glitches going from 1.5 to 2.5
3 I used SPupgrade and it worked – note that it will not bring all your mods in etc anyway most will have to be upgraded to 2.5 etc
    4 Look at this article : http://www.cmsbloke.com/migrating-to-joomla-2-5-step-by-step-tutorial/
5 make sure you are really calm when you start.
6 create a new BLANK J2.5 site (no template) in a new folder/directory – you will import into this
(basically you pour everything into this install) It needs to have NO DATA in it.
7 create a second new site in another subdirectory that is a FULL quickstart Teline IV install (demo data if you like) – the demo helps to refer to in moving modules etc and checking settings
I later used this to move the template & all the components, modes etc etc to make it look like the demo – trust me you dont want to try setting up Teline without it as a reference etc
8 make your import into the first new bare J2.5 install
9 copy in all the Teline template (all subfolders etc)
10 copy in all mods, coms, plugins etc etc
11 install/upgrade all mods & plugins you may have installed as extras that are not teline
12 after rename the folders and edit configs etc etc etc
13 IF you edited CSS you need to check that – fix headers/logos etc
14 take a holiday – you will need it.

Oh – advise above is good, copy/backup all your original template files if you modified them.
However, I found it was easier to just copy and edit those files that were changed using the old site as the key/reference. If you are using K2, sorry – Im not sure. Ive almost given up using it, the content I have if needed I will do by hand as I dont have so much. JUPgradePro does claim to include K2, but after all the errors and problems I gave up.
Oh – you will need to move images etc by hand but thats simple enough.

    Good luck

    Hi

Thanks very much for your advice. I am going to give it a shot. I have 2 years of content on the website and well over 3,000 images. It is going to be a painful process me thinks.

    Thanks again

Hi – note that the above will not move your images, You have to do that manually. But all your links to images will be in the articles etc. The trick is to make sure that you just copy/move your image folders so that the path is the same. Just make sure you update the image path setting and alls well.
The worst part about the move is making sure all module positions are back in place as the settings in J2.5 etc are different.
If you dont have K2, its all much easier. Once you move all the core teline mods etc in, its just a process of checking which plugins etc you need to install for J2.5 – it took me all Easter 😉 But by stp 9 you have a functioning site depending on any other plugins you want to add in etc
    Good luck.

Hello! my web hoster called today and read me the riot act for being on Joomla 1.5.15 and Ja Telin III v1.3, says the site is being compromised day after day and he was QUITE upset.

I have limited knowledge of all the tech issues, but a local Joomla guy has committed to help me tomorrow to do this complex upgrade….is it fair to say he can help me follow the steps in post # 3 of this thread?

    Hi biiekz1e3140 ,

Are the changes we made to the code going to be wiped out if/when we migrate to Joomla 2.5? Or will it affect migration?
    >> Answer: Yes. So, You need to BACKUP all your old template files & also the database before migrating Joomla.

Does Joomla provide migration service for us novices?
I think No. But you can do it by yourself via following our suggested links above. I.e
    http://docs.joomla.org/Migrating_from_Joomla_1.5_to_Joomla_2.5
    >> You can see that Joomla developers recommend to use jUpgrade extension.
