I updated to Joomla 1.7 from 1.6.5. Now I get the following error when trying to access existing comments for an article. (See http://joomlabeta.cornerstonecubed.com/resources/c-cubeds-articles/69-white-papers#ja-contentwrap)
The following error occurs:
Fatal error: Cannot access protected property JACommentViewComments::$_charset in …/libraries/joomla/document/document.php on line 492
where “…” is my website url starter.

July 19, 2011 at 10:49 pm #401944I would assume all the JA extensions will have to be updated a bit for 1.7

July 20, 2011 at 8:30 am #402040Hello.
J1.7 has just been released today, we will check it out now and definitely upgrade our templates and extensions to be compatible with the Joomla version. This is also mentioned in our blog today http://www.joomlart.com/blog/news-updates/joomla-17-released-joomlart-upgrades-templates-to-j17

July 23, 2011 at 7:40 am #402634Hello,
To fix this problem temporarily, I suppose the charset of your site to be “utf-8”. So I suggest you open “componentscom_jacommentviewscommentsview.html.php” file, then go to this line “$charset = JDocument::getCharset();” (about line 614) and edit it to “$charset = ‘utf-8’;”
I hope that will help you.
Best regards.

That seemed to work. Thanks for your help.

July 26, 2011 at 4:39 am #403031I had the same issue. This was a quick fix. Thank you!!
Can’t wait for your J1.7 update. Thanks again. 🙂
July 29, 2011 at 1:04 am #403514Nice fix. 🙂 Now I’m wondering something else…
Is there a way to show a “Comments” link in my display module on the front page? I have just sections of news articles on my front page with a “read more” link. Is there a way to show a “Comments link right there? It works fine if my visitors click the article and go to the full article display. But I’d love to have the comments link shown on each article on the front page.
Here’s my Joomla 1.7 site: http://www.grizzledgamer.com/jupgrade
I’d like it to work like my Joomla 1.5 site: http://www.grizzledgamer.com
Thanks.

Thanks. Can you please update us on when you expect the J1.7 update for JAComment to come out?
Thanks! Best,
