Are you truing to upgrade it from previous version to lastest one? Or, are you trying to switch from Joomla 1.015. to 1.5.3?

Then download suitable package from Joomla site:

http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/7370/25658/Joomla_1.5.1_to_1.5.3-Stable-Patch_Package.zip

Unpack archive somewhere on your HDD, and then upload files via FTP to your site, overwriting old files.

DO NOT FORGET TO MAKE BACK UP of your site before doing upgrading. If something goes wrong then you will be able to recover site.

so, I should upgrade via ftp everything by hand?

I heard about eXtplorer for upgrading, do you know it?
if yes, is it easy to use?

I do not about that “eXtplorer. Sorry, I am always doing upgrade manually via FTP.
