    HI matteo,

It seems you missed the announcement >> http://www.joomlart.com/blog/news-updates/joomla-16-templates-release-round-3/

JA Ores for joomla 1.6 has been released almost a week back, sans K2 support as K2 for Joomla 1.6 is not yet available.

Currently the only upgrade tools are third party ones on the JED or to go via the MySql method. There are now 2 upgrade tools available, jUpgrade and SP Upgrade. I’ve only tride the former early on and it has changed since then. If you give them a go please report back here how you get on as I am sure the community woild love to hear.

so, i want to upgrade the site in “my way”:
Frist of all, i don’t think it’s a good idea to uprade the working-on site, ithink it’s better to have a copy of it to test the upgrade.
So i would like to copy the site in a different folder, maybe form http://www.mysite.com/j15/ to http://www.mysite.com/j16/ (that’s easy to do with FTP). Then i can create a copy of my database table, justi downloading my mydb_tab_1 and uploading a new tab mydb_tab_2, so we’ve got a copy of the whole site, and a copy of databsae.

But there is a thing that i don’t know, hoe to link the copied site (…/j16/) and the copyed database (…_tab_2), and also telling the site, “you’re now working on /j16/ subfolder, forget about your /j15/ old folder”

Didi you know how to do that? Later, as i got the copy working i can upgrade it and see what’s happening.

Else i would install a brand new 1.6 and, copy paste contents. It will be boring, i would need a year!

Else (how many else!) forgotting about menus and other things, i can try to understand how new db is working, and try to copypaste contents between DB! and reupload ad updated DB…i don’t think this would be a bad idea, but i think i need a DB documentation to make it work…

Jupgrade makes a new install in the place of your choosing with a new databse. However, here is the workflow I would use.

First I would make a backup of my live site using Akeeba – http://www.akeebabackup.com/
I would then download the backup file (which includes the entire database and all files) to my desktop/
Using Wamp (http://www.wampserver.com/en/), Mamp (http://www.mamp.info/en/index.html) or Xampp (http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html) depending on my preference I would install that copy on my localhost.

This would give me an exact copy of my site to work on locally. While it takes a long time to download your workflow will be a lot faster on your desktop and you are not working on your live site. If things go wrong it is only a few minutes work to restore locally.

I would then begin the migration process using one of the aformentioned extensions. You will find there is some tidying up to do after the migration but when all that is complete you can use akeeba to restore your site on your live host.
