After the attempted upgrade from 1.6.5 to 1.7.3 failed I have restored files from the original 1.6.0 back up. I also requested the .sql database be restored by hostgator. No luck getting the site back up.

All files are currently synched with local backup.

    Please help.

When you say you have a local backup do you mean a clone of the production site (with db)?

If you have a running copy of the site on localhost then do a backup with akeeba (check which version you download for 1.6) and then copy that archive along with kickstart.php (from akeeba too) to the domain and you can restore everything there.

    Full documentation is here https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/akeeba-kickstart-documentation.html

Not a running back up. A copy of all files and the db prior to upgrade.

    Here are the error messages

Warning: require_once(/home/gammie/public_html/libraries/joomla/import.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/gammie/public_html/includes/framework.php on line 40

I’m not smart enough to interpret the error messages there.

Personally I would rebuild it all locally on Xampp or winamp and then use the Akeeba method I mentioned above to put it back on the domain. That avoids any problems with the hosting company etc or corrupting files on an ftp transfer. (Just make sure that you make another copy of the files first so that always have a safe set to fall back on)

Here is the Joomla docs covering building a new db and importing the data etc.

    http://docs.joomla.org/Copying_a_Joomla_website

Oh and when you get it back install Akeeba immediately and make a back up! 🙂

OK, site is back up running 1.6.5 I believe there is a problem with the template when you upgrade to 1.7.3. Can anyone confirm that the template works in 1.7.3?

Well done on getting it back.

I believe there is a problem upgrading from 1.6.5. Check the Joomla forum. Copy it locally and then I think you have to upgrade from 1.6.5 to 1.7 then from 1.7 to 1.7.3 to 1.7.4. You can test after each upgrade to see if all is ok. Again do a backup each time. If it works you can upload to the live site using kickstart.
