Has anyone upgraded the template from Joomla 1.7 to 2.5? With ease??? I’ve been having a real nightmare with this.

I had an installation with Joomla 1.7 and Community Plus 1.3 which was stable, and everything looking nice. And I decided to upgrade to 2.5 for the obvious reasons. Since then I just keep coming up against insurmountable problems, which I can’t fix without support from the good people at Joomlart. But the good people at Joomlart seem to be very busy doing other things, perhaps working on the Wall, and it has been painfully slow to get answers. I am now stuck with a site that has been off-line for days, and I need something to go on, in order to communicate to the client the time-factor involved for a prospective solution; I’m beginning to think I may have to give up and restore it to the Joomla 1.7 version from a backup (big sigh!).

Has anyone had similar problems? Has anyone else reverted to Joomla 1.7 because problems have not been resolved?

Here are some of the issues I have had:
    1. My first attempt at using JA-Extension-Manager to upgrade the template didn’t work. It took several weeks to get the problem resolved by the Joomlart technical staff, even though I escalated the problem to urgent. I am told it was a file permissions problem. To be fair, the Joomlart technical staff are usually much more responsive – or at least they were in the past. Perhaps it was bad timing on my part – just when the Wall was about to be released.
    2. The template has reverted to the dark brown color since the upgrade, and won’t let me change the color back to the brown-green that the client requires. I have raised the problem in this forum http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/cannot-change-theme-color/ and have had a couple of responses from moderators who are trying to help – but I haven’t got a solution yet so I’m stuck with a site that is unpublishable. And the days keep ticking over as I wait for the next suggestion.
    3. Menu options/settings for category blog layouts that worked in Joomla 1.7 don’t work in 2.5, so I had to work at fixing those menu item settings, but now I have a problem with the template … on several pages, the modules in the ‘right’ column now appear at the bottom of the page below the content or outside the content container. I have raised a ticket for this, but I wonder how long it will take to get a solution?
    4. I just tried creating a new article on behalf of another user. When I try to select the user that the article is created by (in the backend content editor), I get:”500 – An error has occurred.
    Table ‘mydb_wetlands.bay_user_notes’ doesn’t exist SQL=SELECT n.user_id, COUNT(n.id) As note_count FROM bay_user_notes AS n WHERE n.user_id IN (45,50,46,42,44,43,51,52,49,47,48) AND n.state >= 0 GROUP BY n.user_id

    – the good news is I managed to fix this last problem by “fixing” the database which is something I wasn’t aware I had to do when upgrading to 2.5 (For anyone who hasn’t “checked” their database after upgrading to Joomla 2.5, see http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrading_from_an_existing_version#Extension_Manager:_Check_Database )

The Joomlart team do a wonderful job in many areas, so the sudden downturn in the level of support does not make sense. I appreciate all they have done in the past, but it can be very frustrating to be dependent on waiting for their help after such a significant upgrade, particularly at the moment when you are stuck, with nowhere else to go!

    Hi missyw,

Thats a long long post. Help me list out the real issues you are facing and i shall get them attended too. Please list the issues you face with the template or JA products only. Any Joomla related migration problem be handled later.

I only see one link above in your post. Is thats the only one needing attention?

Dont worry, your issues will be resolved.

    Regards

Thank you, Arvind, for your reassuring words.

Re Problem 1: I have had a response on my ticket for this problem, however all my questions regarding how to use JA-Extension Manager have not been answered. Can you advise me – should I pursue these questions on my ticket, or should I raise them on a forum?
Re Problem 2: Happily, I have had a response on that ticket which appears to provide the solution.
Re Problem 4: I resolved this problem myself.

So you are correct … my remaining critical issue is my problem with the theme color, as described in the link in my previous post. I would be very glad to have your help to get this resolved.

    Thanks and Regards,
