I need help in upgrading to the latest Joomla version. My current version is 1.5.8. I know the procedure, but I am afraid to do it on my live site.

Back it up using something like JoomlaPack and restore it to another domain, sub domain (xxx.domain.com), or sub directory (domain.com/v2). Create a new database for the new restore. It’ll keep your existing data but leave the current database intact.

There were issues with the 1.5.12 or .13 upgrade which required a minor alteration to an IE display: inline-block statement which you should be able to find on the forums.

Upgrading may be very risky at times.

It is however worth the pain to get the real tool in upgrading such an important website.

It is worth between $29 and $59.http://software.realtyna.com/products-a-services/joomla-magic-updater.html Here.

I discovered this component last year, when it just came out and it was free. I got that one. I have used it since Joomla was 1.5.3 on my site until now and I am planning to but the pro. version soon.

    Good luck!

If you get the correct patch from Joomla then upgrading should be easy and trouble free. The above component seems like a waste of money to me*?

Always use reliable 3rd party extensions on your site though. If there is a problem when you upgrade then it’s almost always due to an extension. The good extension developers will have the problem addressed with in minutes or hours when there is a new release. The bad ones – well they’re still running on Legacy mode.
