In a nutshell . . . . what you would need to do is download the update/modified files . . .
Update the relative files within your file structure
Then reload your files onto your server

August 29, 2011 at 9:11 pm #409492Is this something I can just use my extension manager to install? Or do I have to manually do it? I don’t think I’m savvy enough, or comfortable enough, doing it manually :-/

You have to do this manually … and that’s more because J1.6.x is no longer supported by Joomla.org, so you can’t use Joomla Extension Manager to upgrade from 1.6.3 to 1.6.6.1 user says Thank You to TomC for this useful post

August 29, 2011 at 9:25 pm #409496Well you could try with JA Extension Manager, you need to download the upgrade package from Joomla.org and upload it to local repository on your server for this to work.. my opinion is that it’s faster to upload the zip file on your server, on your site’s directory and just unzip it (if your host provides you with this feature, to unzip a file on server).
Regards
Manos

August 29, 2011 at 10:46 pm #409507I downloaded the upgrade file for 1.6.3-1.6.4. Off the top of your head, does godaddy have that feature (unzipping in site directory?)
Thanks!

August 30, 2011 at 1:28 am #409516Hi there,
#1: Goddady support unzip function but it’s not much good all times, specially with heavy zip.
#2: As far i’ve checked. There is no patch from 1.6.3 -> 1.6.6.
Actually patch pack just same as full patch except only packing changed file. So you can try with http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/15379/66855/Joomla_1.6.6-Stable-Full_Package.zip .
You can extract it in local and upload manually via FTP.
#3. You can use Akeeba to backup your site before any process.Thank you

August 30, 2011 at 2:56 am #409529Yea I know there isn’t one from 1.6.3-1.6.6, so I was thinking I should inch up 1.6.3- 1.6.4 and so on. If I install the full package that you linked, is that going to reset anything?

August 30, 2011 at 5:58 am #409563Hi
Full pack & patch pack as i said it’s same. But full pack have everything not only changed files, and also include installation dir ( you should delete this ).
So upgrade w/ full pack won’t reset anything.
Thank you
