We currently are using Teline II and have more than 3,000 articles that we must keep.

If we upgrade to Teline IV can we install with Teline IV sample data without losing our existing 3,000 articles? We’re thinking that it will be easier to conform our existing Sections and Categories to Teline IV, make sure they work, then change them back to those we need before taking the site live again.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks…

Upgrading is quite a task indeed. The systems employed are very different. Take a look through the forums and you will see quite a few posts regarding this.

I have yet to try it myself but I would probably install the quickstart on my localhost then import the content from my live site using one of the tools on the JED.

Take a look around the forums a look for tips from others who have already accomplished this very task.

I had the same issue. I ended up going to Joomlancers and for $40 they have saved all my data across and uploaded the quickstart for me and I have now rebuilt the site how I wanted it.

Hmmm. Seems like this is one of those “simple” things that turns out to be a potential nightmare.

What we’re trying to do is “simply” (ha) update our news publication site without losing all of our content.
What I’m gathering is that this isn’t the “simple” task we thought it was.
I’m give joomlancers a shout and see what they have to say. Thanks

I think it is easy for people that have a good sense of backing things up on their server. My problem was firstly I did not have that confidence and secondly I wanted to change my site to look exactly like the demo of Teline IV. The winner of the bid to do my job was very good and I instructed them what to bring over and what not to worry about.

Looks like there aren’t many people upgrading from older versions of Teline. I am in the process of upgrading from Telive II to Telive IV and you bet its a lot simpler to just setup a new site 🙂

    Jim,

Only if you don’t mind, can you share the URL of your website, just for reference.

    Thanks!

    Phill,

Any good tool on JED that you will recommend?

    Thanks
