I continue to have baffling issues with JA Mitius. Here is the latest one…
I did a Quickstart installation. As always, I immediately went into the files and renamed the htaccess.txt file to .hataccess.
Later, to my complete surprise, I noticed that the installation had created TWO htaccess files. In renaming the one file, I didn’t open it to inspect it. I just renamed it like I always do out of habit.
So, I turned on “Use URL Rewriting” to see what would happen. It crashed the website.
I restored the site; then tried to delete the second htacess file, figuring that might be the problem. Again, it crashed the website.
Has anyone else out there found two duplicate htaccess files in their root folder after doing a quickstart install?
Why would that happen? What can we do to get SEF URLs working with JA Mitius?
Does this relate to why, no matter what we do, the default home click will not display for registered users? The page only shows if you are not logged in.
There again, we have tried everything after reading many forums.
I never had any of these problem with previous JA templates.
Thanks to anyone who has some suggestions,
    -Jim G.

    Hello,

That sounds like a default empty .htaccess that’s been created by your server settings, try to edit this one and copy and paste the content of the htaccess.txt file to it.

Let me know if that helps you out .

    Hey Manos,
We were delving into this further last night. I think you’ve got the answer. We are in the process of implementing it.

    Hey Manos,
Thanks for the tip. We independently arrived as the same conclusion and fixed it. Here’s a tip for anyone doing a QuickStart installation.
My installation at Bluehost.com did install a blank default htaccess.txt file, which I did not notice.
The best practice seems to be that before uploading your package you should erase ALL files in the public.html folder. That way the folder will only be populated with the QuickStart folders and files.
Should this tip be added to the QuickStart documentation?
    Many thanks,
    -Jim G.

    Hi,

That seems to be only for a specific host/hosting environment so that’s not something we can add in general.

    Manos,
I gotcha; just wanted to share my solution. I realize it might be specific to Bluehost.
