Have you checked Joomla Extension Directory? if no, just have a look, http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/authoring/authors. They have some good author related extensions.

Yes but i dont think any of them have profile picture functions.

Would it be best to use the community builder thingy looks very complicated though.

Community builder isn’t all that tough. They even provide you complete userguide too on nominal subscription. It gives more functionality to site and also the profile management can be done by users too. So you dont have to update each of them from backend. Once the profiles of each user is updated by them, you can have a “userlist”, which can give you list of members or authors. You can also use filters to exclude normal members from your authors.

Give it a try and they also have good community forum. You may find all the answers to your questions about community builder.

Here’s an example of how i have implemented community builder for staff list .

Ok what i’m also trying to get is to have something similar to a newspaper author who has his picture next to say jim burns then a photo of him.. Can i do this with cb and basically add the
ability to attach highend profile photos to an article.

I’m cautious about starting with community builder as i feel there “may” be an opportuinty to find another way to do this…. But i’ll probably do this. seeyou.

As per my concept to have author pic to be placed automatically in article, first thing required would be a profile manger component (community builder or alike), so that by using custom script the pic can be placed in articles, with a backlink to author profile page. Going through the forums at joomlapolis may get you the answer, someone must have implemented it.
