http://rebo.nl/joomla/index.php/nl/service-support

I just installed com_jak2fiter.v1.0.1.zip and mod_jak2filter.v1.0.1.zip, but I’m running into a few problems.

    Installing both files results in:

JAK2 Extra fields Filter and Search – Module
    JA K2 Filter – Component

    Couple of questions:

    1. When hovering with mouse on the JAK2 Extra fields Filter and Search module name, it states: it is required to install JA K2 Search Component to use JA K2 Filter Module. I don’t see a JA K2 Search Component, ánd I don’t see a JA K2 Filter Module anywhere. There is no JA K2 Search Component in the download section? Has this become unnecessary? I can find this, but it’s for Joomla 1.5: http://www.joomlart.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=10372

I’m not sure if it’s working correctly at the moment..

    2. I don’t want to use to filter/search module to search ALL articles on the website. Where can I select categories to limit search results? Example: if I click Search without selecting a category or product, it comes up with all available articles.

    3. Where can I set which categories can be selected in the drop down menu’s? Now I see ALL K2 categories..

    4. Is the search function searching for all article content, or just article tags?

    5. Is multilanguage support missing?

    6. Is there a small/quick tutorial on how to change the way the search results are displayed? If not, can someone explain me what to do if I want them displayed as a category list? Example of how I like it: http://rebo.nl/joomla/index.php/nl/producten/sign-label-systemen-2/sign-label-systemen

Could someone from the Joomlart team help me out? I purchased a $50 subscription especially for this component… but it does not seem to work as I want, but there are not many other components out there that do the job.

    I don’t understand why I don’t get support?

HI JA K2 filter download link is : http://www.joomlart.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=372 . It has the sub-folders for 1.5 and 2.5 version. The 2.5 version is totally rewritten and improved version. We are adding more features to it in the coming versions.

The 2.5 version Component also installs the module, so you dont need to install both, even if you do.. then also its fine. The 2.5 version do not use plugins anymore as the plugin functions are now taken care by component. The search result page has also been improved…. earlier it was using com_search results for display, which was not user-friendly.

It is a K2 extra-field search module, so any article with the assigned extrafield value will be shown in the result, to limit the inclusion of other articles, category selection is must. Its simple logic for filter.

The current version does not support search within limited categories. http://easycaptures.com/fs/uploaded/734/0485523035.png

Tags and extra-field are different parameters for the same article. The module is primarily for extra-field search and filter. There is option to enable / disable the keyword search. We will be releasing an improved version very soon, which will also have the option to display the number of articles within each category. The module does come with its own language file, and i think its pretty easy to update the language strings.

For now, the search result layout is fixed, its much better than what it used to be and lets see if we can provide more options for the same.

    Hi rsystems,

Please see my replies on your questions one by one as follows:

    1. In J1.5, we used modules and plugins for it. However, in new version for J2.5 we use component and plugin instead, as you can see in the package here : http://www.joomlart.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=20372.

    2. K2 Filter will search in all articles of K2 component. If you want to limit the search result, you can add more search conditions. You can’t click on “Search” button without selecting “Category” / “Product” which will help to limit the search results.

    3. When enabling the “Filter By Category”, it shows all K2 categories and you can not get it selected. This can be developed in next version.

    4. It can search for all articles if this field “Filter By Keyword” is enabled.

    5. I don’t know. For multilanguage, you can duplicate modules for each language.

    6. We use “generic.php” layout of K2 component and you can override it in template.

Hope it is clear and let me know if you need any further info.

I would like to use 2 or 3 filters per website, per language. Because of this, I do prefer a setting that adds the possibility in the backend to prevents showing other, unwanted category results on the frontend.

If this could be added that would be great..!

    That would be nice 🙂

I’m still a bit of a Joomla and web development newbie, could you tell me which file I have to create or edit to update the language strings? I searched the module files but I didn’t see it..

    Here in the demo:
    http://demo.joomlart.com/ja_extensions25/ja-k2-filter.html

The search results are displayed in 3 columns. I would like the same. How do I achieve that? What do I have to edit to get that? I don’t understand in which category/menu/module I have to change it :((
Can I do this in Joomla settings, or should I edit php or css files?

Now it is displayed like this:

    1 column:

    – 1 more wish, maybe this could be added in next version:

I would like to group search results by extra field, would such a thing be possible?

Search for this file “en-GB.mod_jak2filter.ini” under your site/languages folder, you can make your own language file using the same.

Search in google for making language files for Joomla >> http://www.minitek.gr/tutorials/joomla-16-tutorials/item/46-how-to-create-a-language-file-for-joomla.html

Regarding the layout on the demo site, its custom style. Let me get back to you tomorrow on this… i would not mind giving you the override files.. but if it clashes with your current template.. you will have to customize the same.

we do have 1-2 more layouts and options coming up in the next version of K2 filter.

I don’t have that category in our new website, why does the module use that specific category? Where ever I search in all my categories, images are all set to small or xsmall, I don’t understand why the images are shown this big.

Which category does it use by default? Should I create one for the search results? If yes, how to I point the module to use these category view settings? What code do I have to change so I can manually set the category for the display settings?

    Hi, thanks for reply!

For example, I want to change the text “SEARCH” in the submit/search button in the filter, but this one does not appear in this translation file? Where can I find it?

I also want to remove the text “Select” ( http://rebo.nl/joomla/index.php/nl/service-support ) because I already named the Extra Field “choose product”, now it says Select Choose Product (in Dutch).

Because we’re overridding “generic.php” file of k2 component, so, with images, it will inherits configuration of k2 component. Please go to administrator -> component k2 -> parameters, find and re-config params “Item generic image width (in px). Used in user pages as well as tag, search & date listings.” of tab “Images” (attached image)

With search results page, it uses K2 Generic layout, if you wanna change, you need to customize it

If you want change “SEARCH” in the submit/search button, please go to folder “language/YOUR-LANGUAGE (example en-GB)”, find file “YOUR-LANGUAGE(ex: en-GB).mod_jak2filter.ini” and add to bottom of file:
SEARCH=”text you want change”
Still in the same language file, find out this line
JAK2_SELECT_OPTION=”- Select %s -”
and change to your desired word.
