I have ja_community plus installed on a future live site and a test site. The problems I am encountering show on both. Going through the administrative backend I have followed the steps to change from the default theme/profile to Velvet (or really any other than Default), but although the changes appear to take the theme remains Default.

My steps –> Extensions –> Template Manager –> JA Community Plus –> Select Profiles tab –> Click On Velvet to select it.

Velvet now shows in light blue. I scroll down to Themes and it is there, the Edit button to its left and “default” to its right. Just to be sure, I click Apply or Save, then clean t3 cache and view the template which is still the Default (brown) color.

Just for kicks, I reload the Administrator page and reselect the Profile tab and all is back to “Default” including the “theme settings”. Velvet isn’t even there.

I am guessing this is a file permissions problem or similar but I don’t know which file controls the color and other profiles. The demo site is: http://www.dottedi.us/26. If you want admin access for testing, use:
    u: joomlart, p: joomlart.

I will reinstall it afterwards Thx, Bob

I am running into the same problem with other recent Joomlart themes including JA Bistro and JA Social.

All directories in the files system are set to 755 and all files to 644. Is there a file somewhere in the framework where I need to adjust the permissions to make saves take?

There must be somebody out there who can answer this very simple question/problem?

Have you looked in the page assignment settings in the global tab to make sure you have the velvet theme selected there?

First of all of course – thank you that did it.

However… I probably looked at that 20 times, then again after you replied. The problem here is that this system suffers from “mysterious link syndrome”. It is plenty complicated with the additional functionality but in looking at the config page there is nothing to tell you that there are links/functions there to be accessed. You have to guess and move the cursor around and then suddenly it changes over these tiny text areas. LInks should be obvious. The old template system like with JA Labra or JA Trona, although less configurable, was many times simpler.

I must agree that many are struggling at first. The learning curve is a lot steeper now. Hopefully over time usability will improve. Good luck with your site.
