I look for the best FTP Program. Must support SFTP, SSH and also some other functions that matter and must include the option to instantly scan the server, save the scan, update the scan when connected and to show explicit folder sizes and much more information.

Is this possible, to get a good FTP client like this?

    THANKS!

    Hey wooohanetworks:
Not sure if this does all your require, or if you’re even on a Mac, but this is, bar none, the best program I have ever used: Transmit FTP If I were a PC user, I would be looking for something like this. Their Synchronize function makes updating Joomla website very easy, and supports multiple FTP/SSL functions.

Hee Hee. Don’t worry about those poor Windoze users BillyK, let’s keep the best stuff to ourselves. 😀

Thanks for all the answers yet! I am currently using Filezilla and miss some functions that most of the common FTP Program do not have, e.g. I need to know folder sizes as mentioned. It is very necessary to know how large directories are when your site is quite large and you need to know what takes away all the storage.

I heard about FireFTP but haven’t checked it yet, CuteFTP I never heard about. From how it looks like right now I will check out TransmitFTP first as it sounds very promising.

I tried a program called Magellan Explorer yesterday just to get some more functions but this program seems to be kind of old already (offered only for up to WindowsXP on the website, not updated since that but could not find anything and it did the job, but slowly) so let’s see!

Thanks again for all the answers yet….;)

I also want a mac that does all the work for me and creates me super nice homepages without I have to do or learn anything to make top notch homepages, did you purchase the special edition with a midget designer inside…:D

    Hi there questbg,

Hee Hee, What’ wrong with Windoze anyway! It’s not that bad. It is actually quite good.

Regarding FTP, I like Filezilla too.

I did try SmartFTP once, and it has one very neat feature, you can have several FTP sites open at the same time, and copy from one to the other. But Smart FTP is not for free. Filezilla is!

Sunrise, how much time have you spent on a Mac compared to Windoze (XP, Vista, whatever)?

Not that this is the place to get into a Mac v Windoze discussion but … :p

Windows is ugly, it’s full of stuff people don’t need, it’s clunky, it installs all sorts of garbage, it’s prone to every single virus that’s ever written, etc. etc.

I do use a PC but only to check a few sites, I would NEVER use it as a full time machine in my job. The thing crashes all the time, virus galore, etc. I’d be out of business by now.

Good ‘ol Microsoft ruling the World. Thank goodness IE views sites totally different to any other non Microsoft browsers eh? Makes my job 10 times harder, I can build a site that looks fantastic … but not in IE, then waste years making it work because Microsoft have a different view on how HTML should be written compared to the rest of the World.

If you haven’t guessed I hate all things Microsoft 🙂

    Chris

(Ever tried copying and pasting from Word into an Joomla Text Editor, what’s all that code about?)

Microsoft has had it in their business plan to take over the world from day one, so… I guess, as the Borg would say, “Resistance is futile”

    Windoze 7?

Hang on a mo. Surely this is MS clutching at straws. 😉

They start out with Windoze 3.?? blah blah. Which is too dismal for words, so they change to Windoze 95, 98 blah blah blah. Then Windoze 2000 (wasn’t that a year or so late?). Still horrible OS.

So, then they switch to things like ‘XP’ and ‘Vista’ which still don’t work so decide to now jump from Windoze 3.1 to Windoze 7?

Joke. Absolute Joke. No wonder Bill’s retired 😉

Give me a break guys and go back to DOS or buy a Mac, at least they work. 😀
