February 16, 2010 at 11:05 pm #148730Hello,
I have always seen JA templates coming with Source Files and those that do not come straight with Source Files, people ask for them.
I am just wondering what is the importance of Source Files.
Thank you.

February 16, 2010 at 11:15 pm #332905Hello,
The source files are the files that are used to create the visuals of the template. In the download you will find the Fonts used and psd files that you can open in a program like photoshop.
With those PSD files you can edit the visuals (logo, backgrounds etc) and make the site look like how you want it to be. Create your own version of the logo implement different backgrounds and images so you create a more unique look.
With Regards,

February 16, 2010 at 11:41 pm #332906Only you have to manually slice them up and make sure you get the dimensions perfect or then you have to edit the CSS files.
Other template clubs give you the REAL source files – which includes a sliced copy of the psd’s or png’s so that you can customize the design more easily.
I know, someone is going to come in and say “joomlart doesn’t use 1 psd file to make the design” and that’s great, so package ALL of the sliced source files.
Have a great day 😀

February 25, 2010 at 7:13 pm #333891Just a few more clarification on the sliced source files
For all JoomlArt templates, as well as templates from any providers, it is impossible to provide a sliced PSD with exact location of all template elements because of following reasons
- Most of the template have flexible width, module positions as well as color variations, so sliced images with exact location can’t be work out.
- Modules used in template have many settings, eg: With JA Tab, you can configure the tab position at the top, bottom, left or right, so if we slice all of these positions, how we should do?
- For many background images, we need to slice them with a safe width & height so it won’t break on diffrent screen resolution + postion. Eg: The module H3 of Kyanite II template is about 180px in width, but we must slice a 1000px width image for it (see the picture attached)
- Sprite CSS can’t be used

February 26, 2010 at 12:11 am #333905With all due respect, you are wrong on every point you just made.
RocketTheme, Gavick, YooTheme and Shape5 all provide Sliced PSD or PNG files that are sliced exactly how you need them to upload straight to your site after you make your changes.

February 26, 2010 at 12:13 am #333906Your designers have to come up with the images some how…. So if you are saying none of what you listed is possible, which it is because other template clubs do it, how exactly do your designers do it??? And why can’t those source files be included?

I did not say that we don’t include the source files, I explain how we include and how they are sliced?
thatcomputerdude, please don’t put words on my mouth, read carefully before you posting. Download any of the source files to see how they are sliced

February 26, 2010 at 5:05 am #333953For example… When I open the green.psd source file for the Rasite template, there are no slices.
So if I want to customize the look of the template, I have to slice the psd file up EXACTLY like your developers did or I have to also make sure to edit all the css files.
With other clubs, you get the sliced source files so it’s MUCH easier to customize the look of the templates.
I started a thread asking why you guys don’t include sliced source files….

September 26, 2010 at 1:15 am #356667Actually that would be great to have sliced source files. Would make life a bit easier.
January 6, 2011 at 12:34 pm #370463Hi,
Is it possible that I can make a background image for Kyanite? like JA Events. Please tell me how to do this.
Thanks.

January 6, 2011 at 12:41 pm #370465You simply need to replace the image with one of your own. However in Kyanite there is no separate div holding the main window so it may look a little odd unless you carefully design it.
