I am about to join, and I picked out the Mageia template before I realized it wasn’t built on the T3 Framework. I’m REALLY sold on the advantages of the T3 Framework, so I’m thinking about going with a different template while I wait for the Mageia template to be eventually updated to T3 v2.
My question is, am I better off to start off with a different T3 v2 template, and then just switch over to the Mageia template when it is updated, or am I better off to start with the Mageia the way it is, and just update it to T3 v2 whenever that happens? In other words, is making the transition from one T3 template to another one easier than sticking with a single template and only transitioning from the non-T3 to the T3 version of that single template.
Also, I was thinking about simply going with JA Purity II while I wait, but it appears that that template is not v2 of the T3 Framework. Is that more problems, or will it be easy to update from v1 to v2 of the T3 Framework.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m really anxious to get started right away with at least something, but I don’t want to sign up for more work later that I can avoid by taking the best approach now. Thanks.

September 23, 2010 at 6:56 am #356451Hi Michael,
Thank you for your kind words about T3 framework. I would like to give comments for your concerns as below
Please view the slide#21 for comparisions between T3v1 and T3v2, you can see various structure differences. T3V2 is featured for overides improvement, cache and compress. T3V2 manages templates according to core and local. In case user customizes layout / theme on his/her template, v.v.v tren template, those custom works shall be monitored under local folder. Core folder will be the default segments that we support for that template. This method of separate management shall empower user to upgrade without worrying about overrides problem and can easily define which part should be updated.
Due to the above basic difference among 03 frameworks: former before T3V1; T3V1, T3V2, I am afraid that the upgrades from this one to the next are not easy tasks that could be done by non-programmers. However, you can refer to the userguide for developers HERE
For former templates of JoomlArt, we do consider to get a few most wanted upgraded to T3 on the basis of users’ selection. However, the specific schedules for this upgrade are not confirmed yet and might be subject to change depending on the HR resources and workload for monthly release.
September 23, 2010 at 1:37 pm #356489So, it sounds like I need to start with a T3 v2 template right from the beginning then, because updating from v1 to v2 sounds like a developer level task, which is probably beyond my skills. Or are you saying that the update from pre-T3 to T3 v2 is a developer task?
That then takes me to my next question, which is what version of the T3 Framework is currently used on the Purity II template? I see that your site says the Purity series gets the best and most advanced updates first, but then again, I don’t think the Purity II has been updated since the release of T3 v2, and I can’t find anything that specifically says it is using v2.
Finally, here is my vote for an update of Mageia. I saw another post with another user asking for that same update, so hopefully that one is deemed “popular” enough.

I have honestly spent 3 hours now on the JA website trying to simply figure out the basic, step by step, getting started instructions for downloading and installing the T3 Framework and a template. I reviewed the FAQs, the video tutorials, and the wiki, and I have searched the blog and the forums, and I’m still not finding detailed but simple instructions of exactly what to download and how to install. I am fairly well versed on installing and working with Joomla, and have already installed Joomla on my site, but it would appear that the T3 Framework changes things. So, I’ve given up and I’m asking my questions here. I want to practice with the JA Purity II template before I purchase the one I’m looking at.
1) Is the “quickstart” version of the JA Purity II download for installing the template AND Joomla at the same time?
2) If I have already installed Joomla on my website, then, do I ONLY need to download the Ja Purity II template, and NOT the quickstart file? Do I lose anything (features, etc) by going this route? (This same question applies to any template on the site, not just Purity.)
3) Do I have to install the T3 Framework separately from the template (if I already had Joomla installed on my site), or is the T3 framework somehow built into the template (this seems unlikely to me, as it is my understanding that the T3 Framework changes things about how the back end works in Joomla)?
4) What are the JA Extensions Manager and JA Menu Parameters plugin, and do I need to download and install those separately from the template?
5) Where can I find step by step installation instructions for installing each of the above? Thanks much.

Hi Michael,
I could see you received answers for above questions via ticket ID#NEA-849066. I would like to publish it here for those who have the same concerns:
1. I have honestly spent 3 hours now on your website trying to simply figure out the basic, step by step, getting started instructions for downloading and installing the T3 Framework and a template.
>>Please retry and follow the video guide at: http://www.joomlart.com/blog/jat3-framework/usertheme2. Is the “quickstart” version of the JA Purity II download for installing the template AND Joomla at the same time?
>>Yes, certainly. However, I am afraid that the quickstart installation guide are available for paid member only at this link: http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/how-to-install-joomlart-quickstart/3.If I have already installed Joomla on my website, then, do I ONLY need to download the Ja Purity II template, and NOT the quickstart file? Do I lose anything (features, etc) by going this route?
>>Yes, if you do not use quickstart package, you can install templates and built in extensions from your administrator panel. However, you need to revise the content/DB to suit with the new layout and module arrangement.3) Do I have to install the T3 Framework separately from the template (if I already had Joomla installed on my site), or is the T3 framework built into the template?
>>For quickstart package, you just need to install once for all.
For non-quickstart package, in terms of templates using T3 framework v1, you just need to follow the specific guide to install, configure template/modules. You do not need to install T3 framework separately from the template.
(I am sorry that JA Purity II is free under GPL and does not have the userguide. )For non-quickstart package, in terms of templates using T3 framework v2, you need to install T3v2 plugin to get the template run as demo site. The guide for this plugin is available here http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/how-to-install-joomla-plugin/. However, I am afraid that the guide is available to paid member only
4) What are the JA Extensions Manager and JA Menu Parameters plugin, and do I need to download and install those?
>>JA Extensions Manager is tool to check the differences among versions and you can define what files have been updated to narrow down that segment and make the upgrades easier. More info could be found here: http://wiki.joomlart.com/wiki/JA_Extensions_Manager/OverviewJA menu parameters plugin: Used with Mega Menu, T3 framework for Extended Menu parameters so that you can find it easier to revise the menu as you wish.
5) Where can I find step by step installation instructions for each of the above?
>>Please refer to the answers to each of above questions.
As you are not familiar with programming, I highly recommend you to subscribe to a standard member ($59 or 70$) so that you get better support. If you are still not satisfied you can count on 100% moneyback guarantee no question asked.

Yes, the update one template using different framework to another one required insight into programming skills. In case you are keen on T3V2, kindly consider to use those ready made templates driven by this framework already for hassle free such as JA Social, etc
That then takes me to my next question, which is what version of the T3 Framework is currently used on the Purity II template? Please be informed that JA purity II is running on T3v1. With T3v2, we offer blank template for the new version.
Finally, here is my vote for an update of Mageia. Thank you, your votes shall be noted for serious consideration. However I am afraid that we could not promise anything at this stage. -
