I am trying to reduce the bloat in my installed Joomla1.5.4-Teline II. I was wondering, can people quite familiar with the files help identify the folders or individual files (if an entire folder cannot be removed) be deleted without affecting the operation of the Joomla1.5.4-TelineII.

Anything that is useless must go.

One good candidate area to look at is the templates directory that lists:

    /templates/beez/
    /templates/ja_purity/
    /templates/rhuk_milkyway/
    /templates/system/

obviously, /templates/ja_teline_ii/ must not be removed.

The /templates/ja_purity/ is used as default template by Joomla 1.5.x, can it be removed completely? How about the other two?

    1. /templates/beez/
    2. /templates/rhuk_milkyway/

    What is the /templates/system/ for?

What is the template used for the Admin?

    Thanks.

I use the demo sections, categories and files to give form to the page layout. But, after I have created my own sections, categories and files, I want to remove all the Demo demo sections, categories and files including the images.

I thought initially it was just a matter of either placing these in the trash or do delete.

Not sure if I locked something, but in one Joomla 1.0x-Teline II that malfunctioned, I deleted unwanted sections, categories in the Sections and Categories managers and subsequently in the Magazine menu.

I trashed the files, but when I reopened the messed up site, they were back again, including the Sections, Categories and the files. What would cause this to happen.

How do you empty the trash properly so that the files will not reappear again?

    Thanks.

    Hello Cornelio,
First of all hi again. I am back and jet lagged from my trip to Sweden/Germany.
Step 1. Unpublish all that you dont like and make sure the site works. Wait as you probably forgot to check something. Then go ahead and trash what you dont need starting with articles then Categories and finally Sections.
I have not investigated if some resedue gets left but the above aprach should work.

    All the best

You can delete the one mentioned below, but not the system folder:
    /templates/beez/
    /templates/ja_purity/
    /templates/rhuk_milkyway/

Welcome back. Are you Swedish or German? Or, just visiting those beautiful countries?

I have done that already for Joomla 1.5.x, and it works. I just do not know what happened with my Joomla 1.0x-Teline II. It is not working suddenly, then all hell broke lose — my JA News disappeared, and all the “demons” that you buried suddenly came to haunt you back>:(

    Thanks Menalto,

I thought they might be the ones that could be deleted. I have not attempted it yet because when I was new with Joomlart templates, I tried to delete (uninstall) some of the templates that I thought were not needed, and I was not allowed to delete one of them.

The next area that I might consider would be the images. The demo images would be good starting place. I just do not know what else apart from the obvious.

Bloat that affects speed must be minimized.

I was reading the Yahoo YUI, and many of what I thought may be causing the problems of slowness of the presentation of a page, as it pertains to the Joomla -Teline II (or for that matter any combination), were discussed there.

That should be one area that we should be thinking of when creating the “optimized template”.

Hello Cornelio and thanks for the VB.
So you have put yourself between a rock and a hot place? Buggy 1.5 that works and a stable 1.x thats screwed up? Dont mess with the Joomla trolls specially not the JA ones!

I am a swede with a german wife living in Guatemala.

PS speed isue. Stay away from modules that call of-site functions. Like weather google ads, etc. Then reduce the amount of modules plugins and components that you are not using. I dont think unused templates do any harm except for the space on the server but access to the DB and web does.
