September 2, 2009 at 6:10 pm #143885From my own perspective, the Feedback forum — even if it is made Public — should be limited to registered members. But, I do not make the rules. Feedback should be about reviews or perspectives. It is laudable that Joomlart should make some forums public, but it should adopt the policy just like many template companies to restrict posting by non-subscribers to limited forums only.
As the name implies, feedback is credible only if you are talking about something you have already used, in this forum, this would be about the templates and extensions developed by Joomlart. How can one provide a credible feedback if you have not used the product or you are not truly familiar with the company?
This point of view was triggered by the thread with this statement:
@nospam 142685 wrote:
As I can read on the net, many many review articles (official and non-official) were all saying that JA is losing its design and implementation abilities.

This is one of the threads that should have been considered for immediate closure or deletion. This point of view seems to contradict my general concern about the increasing closure if not deletion of posts. But, I don’t think so.
Foremost, the name is suspect (nospam???, what a giveaway), and unlicensed member. If the policy I posted in the first paragraph is adopted, Nospam would have no business posting in a feedback forum.
But, even if Joomlart does not adopt the policy as outlined above, there are still reasons why not all post should appear it a forum. Why? The statement above was unsubstantiated allegation with no proofs (links) were provided to support the claim.
Practical reason. Joomlart Staff, Moderators and Members must not waste their time responding to all allegations, expecially if unsubstantiated and especially coming from non-subscribers. This will reduce the time that they could devote to responding to legitimate concerns by members who are actually using Joomlart products.
Credibility. Let us examine the credibilit of poster itself. Nospam supposedly had been a member since 2007, well before I was even a member. If the statistic data is correct, NoSpam has not downloaded any Joomla template or extension — not even the free ones???? Is this an error on Joomlart’s part?
Expertise. NoSpam has had only seven (7) posts — three of them in this thread. The earliest was on 21st July 2009? How did NoSpam become and instant expert of Joomlart templates?
A matter or propriety.
More important, even if I was once a registered subscriber of GavickPRO, it would be conduct unbecoming of me to go to their site to lambast their products. After I got to product I wanted, and saw no other product useful for me, I stopped surbscribing. Neither to do I go the RocketTheme forum or any other template company, just to lambast the company. I vote with my money and the
It is a different matter to be a reviewer and a critic of a template, or template company. But, you need your own soapbox website or post in other sites where such are allowed.
I am perhaps one of the most controversials critics of Joomlart, but I have not jumped ship so far. I do monitor the RocketTheme and GavickPro, and sometimes visit some other Joomla template companies. I have not seen others that suit my taste. But, that is just myself talking — one who is not too fond of “whistles and bells”.
Maybe someday I will not have a need of Joomlart anymore. Maybe I will even write reviews about Joomlart templates and products or Joomlart itself relative to other template companies. But, if I do that, I will do it either in my own “review sites”. And, I hope at least I shall try to based it from facts that I can support.

September 2, 2009 at 7:37 pm #316147I could definatly see the feedback forum only allowing posts from licensed members . I think the general public is pretty aware of the diffence between some valid feedback and just a troll like “nospam”.
