January 15, 2009 at 8:06 pm #137152When it comes to Joomla and building websites, particularly with pre-made templates like here at Joomlart.com, I always have the thoughts that a lot of people either really make a great website out of the designs or they really crush the unsharped diamonds to some mess, to point it out.;)
So, I like to know what your opinions are on the point how to use a pre made template the right way, if you rather think that:
1. It is good or not good to simply utilize the given design, add some own content too, change some minor things, to use the templates in a simple and thorough way and to achieve a conform and well looking result? You can still see on the first look what template the site was made with and if that is something that you respect or not?
2. If you like sites that utilize a template but one does major changes with it, so that some may say or ask why one even used a paid template for it when one even changed so much that also a free one or a complete own one had made some similar result? Or if that is the only right way as you cannot stand designs that are as described in point 1 and one never should see on the first look what template the site is basically made of?
3. If you honestly can respect and like the work some people do with pre made templates that make some changes to them and the site really looks awkward and messy? Do you rather mention this to the designers, tell them you hate their work, rather say nothing, keep out of the discussion or tell the designers what they like to hear, also when you honestly do not like the sites? You rather tell them to work the site over a bit, get some more skills and try it again?
OR
4. “Your opinion is: Design and taste is something one can argue about, I also like a site that looks bad, it is all about giving it a try and to give head ups to all for just trying it, thanks!”
“Show something…!” Do you know a prominent or major site, some big dogs that use Joomla as their CMS, or VirtueMart for their Shop? Or plus that also a Joomlart.com Template? Do you like their implementations or what is your opinion about them? Do you think Joomla is still something for the “little ones” or also something for the “Big dogs in the Business”? (Please do not just copy and paste the list that is shown on Joomla.org, unless you have some comments to those sites in addition…)
My opinion:
Sometimes it is the best to simply take a flower and place it on a prominent stone outside the house to honor what you believe in, to build a shrine when you are no carpenter may become impossible and you may realize it too late that all your work you invested was with no use, you broke more than you created…:)

January 16, 2009 at 6:43 pm #286824well in my humble opinion not all people have the time or hability to tweak a template, but its wonderful when you have it because allow it to see that there is a real effort and interest.
making a site with content and structured, lest say 10 sections 4 subsections and 3 or 4 articles per subsections is too a hard work and too is a big effort that must be apreciated. in the personal i appreciate sites with a good balance between the two two good design maybe tweaked maybe not and a lot of good content.
in the end the content is the king, isn’t it?
