March 18, 2009 at 5:47 am #296622Hey congrats!!! 1st page Google… and to me even vintage photography magazine is a little generic. Did you use quotes or no quotes when you did the search… just wondering… most “normal” Googlers (is that what they are called?) don’t use quotes.
I always check my search engine results without quotes because I feel like using quotes is not going to give me an accurate snapshot of how I am doing.

No quotes, give it a try. Not so generic though.

March 18, 2009 at 5:51 am #296624Which one are you? I see an ebay listing as #4 for the link you gave.
I found it, it was #5. I am curious, how do you get such good results with a page title of just Home? Fascinating…

Keywords, keywords, keywords. Plastered everywhere and linked. To see for yourself just read some of the articles on the site. Page title means little, but I should really fix it to be more descriptive 😉

MAGAZINE COLLECTORS! Huge lot of vintage photography magazines
eBay.com.my: Camera Craft April 1938 Vintage Photography Magazine
JPG Magazine: Blog: Vintage Photography
Vintage PHOTOGRAPHY Magazine Aug 1952 WEEGEE’S LENS – eBay (item
THEN YOUI wonder if different people see different things depending on cookies lurking on their computers or something… make no sense to me but I am not a search engine guru.

Probably a google cache thing.

I have keywords, keywords, keywords… maybe that’s why we are where we are. But your page title and description in Google of just Old Photographic Username Password Forgot your password? Forgot … … … honestly, I think if I were searching for those terms, I would have skipped over your page because of the username password part.
I haven’t put a Joomla site live yet, still playing with it all, but now I have to wonder, how does the username password part wind up in the Google description? I would not like that for my site.

I have heard that sites linking back to you make a big difference with the Google ratings. That may be where we have a bit of an edge too. Lots of schools and colleges along with many many sites have links back to us. Some of the colleges actually use our site as part of their course studies. Is there a way to find all the sites that have links back to you? The only way I discover them is through my stats. I can find many by Googling our URL, but I sure would like a way to find them all. Would be interesting.

March 18, 2009 at 6:10 am #296634Yeah, I’ve been lazy and been using a auto meta generator. Some of the titles/descriptions are not so good, but between adding content and features for the site I don’t have the time to do it manually (right now). I’ll be working on the seo in earnest shortly though and then watch out…
