I would like to edit the width of ‘user4’ module so that I can fit a banner in the top of the template.

What file do I edit??

Already opened template.css and done a search for ‘user4’ and couldn’t find it!

There is no user 4 class in template.css. Try opening index.php and seeing what class is assigned to the user 4 position, or better yet use the firebug firefox add-on to see what class is applied.
