May 5, 2011 at 9:10 am #163618Hi guys+mod,
i have 2 questions regarding news content:
1. I need some suggestion where to get free/cheap news content which i can retrieve by RSS, but in full text news, not just the headline and little summary. I have found that i can buy news from AP but it take thousand of dollars per month to get continues news delivered every day. This is my first news portal and i have no big money to invest. I wonder i can get the free one to get start. I found that guardian has full text article in their RSS, but i need some more.
2. I found a good plugin name feedgator which i can use to retrieve news automatically via RSS and store it as articles. But its performance not good enough and some time the articles result is like a mess, duplicate image, etc. Need some suggestion if anyone here have another recommendation.
Thanks in advance.

May 10, 2011 at 12:13 am #390473JAEC doesn’t have any extension having this features. Your components is not so complex, its main function is only getting data from RSS and then insert data into database, the feedgator extension is good choice, you can contact theirs developers to require some custom works to fix some bugs as you said.
Of course, you should pay them a small fee:). Or you post your requirement on Joomlancers.com to find a good developer finishing this jobs.

May 10, 2011 at 12:18 pm #390575Thanks for your suggestion Tien. I am curious how others manage their teline site, do they buy the content, post it manually, or what. :-[
May 11, 2011 at 4:35 am #390695bennycen, I understand what you are asking and must warn you. But first, let me explain something. Feedgator is great, and I am sure you know how to use it. What you should understand though, is that you actually do not need a full text RSS feed to get a full text article. If you check the correct options in feedgator, it will scrape the source article from the feed link and put that into your database.
Next, what you are trying to do is most likely illegal. All these news sites state that you can only use it for noncommercial or personal reasons and cannot download or create a database of their articles on an ongoing basis. By posting the articles, and not just giving summaries and links, you are most likely going to encounter a copyright infringement. They may come after you, they may not, but you are still breaking the law.
To actually get articles you can use, either search for copyright free content, or pay the AP or EIN or another service monthly for access to news articles in either RSS or XML feeds. Most users create or find their own articles from my understanding.

May 12, 2011 at 4:08 pm #390987Yeah, as far as i know, most of the RSS news content is not for commercial and just for personal use only. So i can conclude here that i need to buy from news agency or create my own articles.
