April 22, 2012 at 5:34 pm #176376Oh yes, I know the 1.5 Front Page is now called Featured Articles. But I can’t make them show up.
I have ‘Home’ on the main menu pointed at ‘Featured Articles’ (see screen shot) and two articles that I would expect to see.
My trial site is http://sufipaths.net/box4
BIG PICTURE: what I want to do is be able to migrate our 1.5 site, http://ruhaniat.org/ to a 1.7/2.5(+) template. The powers-that-be want it to look pretty much the same visually as it does in 1.5, although I do look forward to adding some new functionality. QUESTION: is the JA Nex template a good choice for me to do this, or would you recommend another.
All I’ve managed to do so far (with a lot of Forum help, thank you) is center the whole template and get the bkg to show. I seem to have a long way to go.
Appreciate any tips you can offer — Howard

What you were missing was that your FEATURED Module was not set to the correct category – in your case GENERAL. They were still set on some demo content. I’ve turned that on for you.
I think NEX is a wonderful template. Very complex but if you’ve been using our products from some time you should have no major issues.
John.

April 23, 2012 at 3:11 pm #449784Thanks, John, now I see it. I’ll just have to turn off the animation and stuff.
I appreciate your confidence in me using this Very Complex template, but actually I’ve only done the one Joomla! project, and that was 3 years ago. Since then I’ve just been maintaining it. Is there another simpler JA template that I could use instead ??
Thanks — Howard Ballinger

April 25, 2012 at 12:59 pm #450125Awaiting response on this. Is there a better choice of JA template for my purposes? JA Nex is very complex!
All I need is a main column with one sidebar, a couple of module spaces at the top for a slide show and some links at the side, and megamenus at the top. I’m trying to migrate http://ruhaniat.org/ to J2.5+. Seems like to get a plain ‘front page’-type column in Nex I have to go to a lot of work.
Thanks — Howard Ballinger

Hi Howard,
A really great flexible but yet comparatively easy template to work with, that could give you what you want is JA’s Purity II. You will obviously need to do some styling work on it but that should be fairly easy to do for you and you’ll get plenty of help in the forums.
Just a thought!

April 25, 2012 at 2:20 pm #450139Actually I think you are good to go with JA Nex. Any migration is going to be more difficult than starting out fresh. And while JA Nex is complex…it is no more difficult to use than any other Joomla installation. By complex I meant it is built to do a ton more things out of the box than most templates. BUT that doesn’t mean you have to use them! 🙂
You’ve made a good choice.
Keep on rockin’…and drop a note when you hit a bump.John.
