Hello,
my webhoster has joomla 2.5 pre-installed. I would like to upload ja_rave 1.7 as a new template if possible via the admin extension manager at backend.
What data from the whole (from Joomlart) downloaded zip-file shall I choose to open (I guess the quickstart part or at least the installation folder is not neccessary, is it)?
And then I guess I have to make a new zip-file from all the neccessary data to upload, right?
Beside, upgrading on my localhost (xampp) from 1.7 zu 2.5 was possible without appearently messing the ja_rave template.

February 2, 2012 at 7:38 pm #436672Hi
If you have Joomla preinstalled you can install only the template file ja_rave.v1.2.0.zip
If you want install on your site an exact copy of Joomlart demo site you need to install the quickstart package
February 2, 2012 at 7:56 pm #436676Thanks pavit,
the upoad still doesn´t work (uploading stopps after a while without installing anything). Maybe its a problem with hoster (php.ini allow to upoad 30 mb, so that shouldn´t be an issue).
But within the quickstart is an installation folder. Is is generally right to upload that when joomla 2.5 is already insalled?

The file ja_rave.v1.2.0.zip is only 663 Kb

The quickstart folder contains The joomla core plus the template file when you start an installation with the quickstart package you install joomla also , So the quickstart package must be installed on a clean environment/folder
Here you can find a guide on the quickstart installation.
If you have already installed joomla then you can install only the template through the extension manager of joomla
Anyway if you still have problems you can send me via PM your super user credentials for the back end so i can check better your configuration .

Thats the point. It is not possible for me zu add new templates via backend extension manager on the server. Serveradmin say, its not possible because is takes longer than 90 sec and there is a fixed limit at 90 sec.
Dont know if that is indeed the root of the problem but at least one other user of that webserver reported the same issue on our webserver forum.Of course there is one way to install my new Joomlart templates via ftp-upload and then install the new 2.5 version of Joomla with the upgrade file. So far it worked fine and I have now my template working with 2.5 version.
But if I can not update directely out of backend extension manager in the future and I would like to implement a new template (via ftp), lets say Ja_pyro I upload a 1.7 version on the 2.5 Joomla on the server. Would´nt some of the files from the quickstart folder (if I want all example files like in demo) overwrite newer 2.5 versions?
Hope I could make the issue clear.

When you are faced with issues such as this, MY recommendation is to wipe your server slate clean – including any “pre-installed J2.5” elements – and install your template directly to your server utilizing the QUICKSTART INSTALLATION PROCESS – which installs Joomla as part of the process.

Seems ftp-uploading will be indeed the best (and only) option until all that critcal server issues are cleared (makes me wonder though if other users face the same problem when trying to update to 2.5 from backend).
Thank you so far and I hope I will get my new joomlart templates to work properly at least with the basic features.

February 7, 2012 at 5:48 pm #437392Hey Ruediger:
Just wanted to follow-up to see how things are working outFebruary 9, 2012 at 5:47 pm #437735The problems with the hoster regarding joomla 2.5 pre-installation are still not solved. But I followed your recomendation and loades the ja_rave 1.7 template in a clean folder. Upgrading to joomla 2.5 works out when uploading the update via ftp in the same folder.
So I would call this issue solved.
Thank you for your help.
Ruediger
