Hi all
I emailed Joomlart and I was told that I should install the quickstart zip file and my site would then look identical to the demo site. I installed it and it was no different in its appearance to a conventional install of the standalone template. I have managed to add some of the modules to make it look a little closer to the demo site than what it did, but it is still miles off from what the demo site looks like.
Why has this happened and what is the solution? I just want my site to look identical to the demo site, how can I make this happen?
Regards
Andrew

February 16, 2008 at 1:34 pm #239287you have to press “Install demo content” during the installation procedure and wait until it shows “demo content was successfully installed” or something like that… then continue with the install.
but in case you are talking about the quickstarts for 1.5 be aware that they have at least one serious bug and do not work with SEF URLs enabled…
February 16, 2008 at 5:00 pm #239301Thanks Elfenwald, your help is much appreciated…
Would you say that it would be better to install the non-1.5 quickstart zip file then?

you are welcome! I keep kicking the pooor JA guys because of the questions they have not answered/fixed so far, so I do my best to help answer questions that I can answer… 😉
Any “old” Joomla user will tell you that it is too early to use 1.5 and that they will stick with 1.0.xx until 1.5 is more stable. Valid point – on the other hand: if you are starting a new Joomla-based site right now, it makes no sense starting with an outdated version that will fade out during the next months…
So I would go with 1.5.x definitely.
The problem is: Joomlart has obviously still some problems with the transition of their templates to 1.5, so the quickstart and the templates have quite a few bugs left. This adds to the instability that Joomla 1.5 itself already has (compatibility issues with lots of components/plugins, etc.).
Funny enough there are some bugs in the quickstart packs that do not show up when you just grab the template and the modules and install these into a fresh Joomla-installation….
Weird, and I can’t see why that is – but so far we have got no useful feedback from JA regarding this.So my advice: if you can wait, wait for the next update to the quickstart packages for 1.5 and keep bugging the JA folks to get it done.
If you have to get started quickly, try to do a fresh install of Joomla, then manually install the template and components. So you get an install that is less buggy than the quickstart, but of course you do not have the demo content then and have more work and a steeper learning curve until you manage to get the site looking like the demo…
Either way: annoying.
February 16, 2008 at 8:28 pm #239311Yes, I originally signed up to Joomlart because I saw they offered an installation service, turns out that do not, a bit misleading I would say. Plus they have not been replying to my emails of late.
Once my site is set up then I will only need to add text from time to time, so I am not too sure if I should be that worried if I have 1.5 or not, but then what do I know. I did have 1.5 installed but it was not allowing me to upload some modules that I wanted to add to the site.
Since my site is a business one and it has been down for over a week due to me trying to sort out the new install it is becoming desperate now. It is very un-professional of Joomlart to leave people hanging like this and for them not to know the full picture before signing up for membership.
I just have not been able to get my site to look like the demo version and to be honest I am a real loss as what to do now, especially since Joomlart are not bothering to reply to my emails.
Ahhh!
Thanks for your help anyhow!
February 17, 2008 at 3:38 pm #239330I decdided to go for the old Joomla and install it using quickstart since there is no way that I have the ability to make the template look like that in the demo, but now I have another problem. If you visit my site: http://www.franklinscott.com – and then scroll all the way down you will see something strange appearing for all to see:
