Very useful information i have had issues for the past few months and even after scaling down all the unnecessary module and components my site was still a bit slow.
I will try the suggested site and hopefully it will work for me.

Google have been mentioning page speed quite a lot recently – personally I think there might be something important there for the future. Anyway, if you have been using Google Webmaster tools you will see a Site performance page there, it will keep track of how your website compares to all the other sites over time (a good way to ensure you don’t get problems over time)..

You just need to install Page Speed though – the download and background on it is here http://code.google.com/speed/page-speed/download.html.

You might be horrified at where your site ranks for speed though – be warned.

Page Speed works in FireFox using the FireBug addon – I had not used it before but once you get used to it and the information it provides – especially in this case how long all the calls take for your page to load – you’ll find it invaluable IMHO.

I see someone already talked about Pingdom which I think is the best option to track the speed of your site since it works with worldwide servers. However, if you just want to check it out local, try Y Slow for Firebug.

It’ll give you tons of info about what you can do to improve the load time of your site – not only which parts take more time to load, but also how to improve them. The person in charge for the SEO in Facebook recommended it to my boss… and him to me 🙂
