Many applications i wish to use require joomla 1.5 native however when the quickstart package was installed from joomla the legacy mode was active… if i unselect this the web site appears with the sentence ” i am either led to believe from reading as much as i could that other components require this to work together… is this the case?
from reading above i have the following related questions:

    1) When searching for components and modules if 1.0 legacy is used to i download applications for 1.0 or for 1.5 as in joomla extentions website it never states for 1.0 legacy
    2) Is there a way to change the mode and keep site working correctly?
    3) there was a recent bug in joomla with hackers playing around is this fix in the quickstart version

many thanks to any that respond i have checked threads and this has not been raised previously

my web address is http://www.live24seven.co.uk (down for maintenance)

Ok to make something clear, when you have your joomla in legacy mode you can run 1.5 native modules without any problems.

The only reason that legacy mode is there is for backwards compatibility for some modules who are not 1.5 native yet. thats all. No problem running legacy and native trough another.

So to answer question 1. you just have to find components for 1.5 doesnt matter if its 1.5 native or legacy.

    2. Its running on legacy mode so that some components can run, if you disable it some JA extensions will stop working, so if you want to use those you have to keep it on (and there is no reason why you would want to turn it off basicly)

    3. JA does its best to deliver quickstarts with the latest update, atm it comes with joomla 1.5.7 (wich indeed fixed one of the very critical fixes some weeks ago)
But yesterday 1.5.8 came out you will have to update to that one by hand, and you will need to keep updating in the future. So keep looking @ joomla.org for new releases.

You install the updates using ftp, guides on how to do so you will find on joomla.org, on there you can also subscribe to updates so you get a e-mail notification.

Installing a update can have effects on your template altho it hardly ever happends if you want to be sure check the forums here first to be sure.
