May 30, 2008 at 3:34 am #129070Why was the original format of JA News from original JA Teline abandoned and not used in JA Teline II?
Or more precisely, why are some features of the original JA News in the original JA Teline not adopted in the JA News for JA Teline II?
There might be good solutions to the issues encountered in the current JA News, but here are some issues encountered:
1. Jagged (not very nice appearance) of the sections in the current JA News for JA Teline II when the heights are different, due to expected variations in the contents ( total space occupied by the images, article title, lead article text, etc.). In fact, if even just one (or more) of the intro articles does not have a photo, this will guarantee a jagged appearance for the sections in the JA News of JA Teline II. Rather quite ugly.
It is true that fixing the height may resolve the jagged appearance, but fixing the height will work only to a certain extent — it becomes more ugly once you fixed the height (to solve the jagged appearance), if the reader changes the font size large enough to cause spill over of conttents from the adjacent top to bottom sections.
See the discussion here: Fixed height for JA News
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/fixed-height-ja-news/Right now, the contents of JA News in JA Teline II is perfect only if you (or your visitors) do not make any changes in the Demo. The reality is that older people would want larger or different fonts, some may turn off the image, and your article title and text may not conform to the limits set by the specifications.
Any of the above will guarantee a jagged appearance of the section — rather ugly; fixing the height may help, but as explained in the aforementioned discussion thread, it could become uglier because the layout envisioned by the webmaster may not be suitable for the readers (e.g., those with poor eyesight).
2. Is there a way to pick and choose what appears as sections in the JA News?
2a, Related question:
Is there a way to specify the order of the sections that appear in the JA News? These are doable in the original JA News of the original JA Teline, but for some reason, I do not see these choices to be present in the JA News of JA Teline II?
Right now, I do not see any correlation of the order of the arrangements of the included sections with respect to either their arrangements in the Magazine Menu, or the order in the Sections. For example, in the Magazine Menu, the “Sport” is at the end, but it ended up as the top (right) section in the JA News? Technology is after Home, and World next, but in the JA News, World is at the Top left.
How did these happen?????
I already read:
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/ja-teline-ii-read-me-userguide/
The bottom line, I do not like the order of the sections in my JA News for the Teline II and they do not answer my questions. I don’t find any solutions to these in the JA News module. Are they found somewhere else?
3. Is there a way to decouple the Magazine menu with the Menu that appears in the Navigation ‘Module” below the logo as well as what appears in the JA News?
I think these should be independent entities. Sometimes, there are features that I wanted to place in the main Navigation ‘Module” below the logo. For example, I may want to add Submit-Contribute or a Forum link, in the main Navigation ‘Module” below the logo, which is a category but will not appear in a Magazine module, and I may not want it to appear in the JA News module either.
Many of these features are doable in the JA News of the original JA Teline so I wonder why they were abandoned in the JA Teline II.
