I have Joomla 1.7 JA Portfolio.

I am a developer and can understand most technical stuff and can modify XML, PHP, CSS or whatever is needed to be done.
I just need someone to point me in the general direction.

I need help with two things:

1. I am using the left column and the main content area (no right column).
I need the left column to be wider (% increase or exact pixels – it does not matter).

2. I need another module next to the left of the “slideshow” that is the same width as the left column.
I can actually see other ways I can get around without any XML or CSS fixes but I am just curious how I can do this.

Adjusting the width of columns is easy and can be done in the template manager. Simply express your width as a percentage. Go to the template manager and in the layouts tab edit your chosen layout.
