Is it possible to embed YouTube video in the main description area of VirtureMart?
I realize this is propbably a better question asked by the Virturemart guys but there’s not much info over there on Video.
Seems like this is something they would have figured out already..

March 30, 2009 at 8:42 pm #299136JoomlaXTC offers a paid extension called VM Media Center, with this one you can add music and videos to the products.
In general, this applies to my country, I would be cautious with adding YouTube videos to a commercial site like a shop. Unless the videos do not just show own videos made for the specific products, there are always problems with embedding third partty content, especially when it would be material that is copyrighted by other parties. /Just see the recent changes on YouTube, com, masses of vides were silenced the music part or even removed completely, as they used copyrighted material, and they even did this with personal fan videos etc..)
But as I think you refer to adding product descriptions in form of videos you created yourself etc., this must not be a problem, but there may be other video platforms more designated for such purpose, not displaying the YT Logo and with the VM Media Center you can also embed videos stored on your harddisk or from any online source when you have to same traffic or do not want to slow down the performance of the site with hosting them on the shop server.
I think there are some better fitting sites where you can store any data and also videos like with YT, but without any Logo Watermark above the output, some may be free, others may be paid services. Nevertheless, I heard that YT is okay with using the site for commercial purposes, but I do not know if this what I heard is actually true. I would simply check also those legal issues before extra work or even legal claims or problems arise, as this is truly commercial and some sites require the content to be non-commercial, non-profit to be hosted for free like YT is.
Hope you get this done and much success with it!;)
March 30, 2009 at 10:18 pm #299154Thank you for your reply, I will look into the extension.
Also, I got the YouTube Video to play. I first attempted to use the Allvideos plugin, however it didn’t work. So I tried the allvideos reloaded plugin which makes a global setting so that video plays through all extensions.
As far as the copyright problems, I’m not too concerend since we will be the ones producing the video’s. We just want to a third party video service like Youtube to host that content.

Much success with it anyway…;)
