December 5, 2007 at 5:05 pm #124198After 2 good designs and functional templates in Genista & Fagus, this remake of Senecio/Utahia is a big let down. Anyone besides me notice that when JA gets pushed for time to get a template out it just slaps together a few parts of other ‘existing’ templates to get em off the hook? If you know what I mean? Very bland design and not a lot of functionality.
There are better, previous templates to choose from I won’t be bothered downloading this one

December 5, 2007 at 8:57 pm #233984My sentiments exactly, and after the disaster that was Justicia its difficult to rationalise a membership renewal unless things change in a hurry. The support (aside from Miccas) is almost non-existent. So many templates are just parts of others….gawd even justicia quickstart still had the senecio thumbnail and name in the xml !
This ones crap add it to the pile of crap templates that grows each month . Should change the front page to read
42 current templates+ 24 more every year. Sometimes we have a half decent template and one really crap template released every month. other wise two crap templates released each month. And dont ask for support we are too busy making crap templates

December 6, 2007 at 3:18 am #234003In fact we do creating a new template based on the bare bones (CSS, xHTML, JS) of some previous template. It’s our basic core for developing, but should not be a part of visual elements for new templates. Just take a look at template_css.css, it has over 1400 lines friends. So why not re-use a basic css file to make it a new one?
Erica may not suit your taste and desire, but it has its own style and layout. I think there will be peoples, who want a fast & easy solution to make a website introducing their product, like it.
My 2 cents! ๐

I am in full agreement here. When I viewed the template demo I closed that window in about 15 seconds. At first sight it was about as plain a look as you can get.

December 6, 2007 at 5:55 am #234015I like the simple nature of the template. Complex doesn’t mean better especially when you are talking about marketing products. There are plenty of complicated, portal style templates on JA … this adds variety to the club and is a welcomed addition.
I’ll use it for something I’m sure.
This template cost a 12 month member maybe $2. I’m sure some client will want a $2 template!

Fair enuff, I can accept that HOWEVER…it would be nice if you answered support questions like the ones regarding Justicia’s SLIDESHOW instead of just ignoring it because its too hard..
December 6, 2007 at 8:47 am #234020I will totally agree with ShannonN and bigrk.
I was very disappointed about this template. I think that you have started to lose the competition, if you know what do I mean!
I was very proud for this club membership but some of your latest templates push me to reconsider about it.Thank you,

December 6, 2007 at 2:20 pm #234043Hmm, what to say here.
I think it is a nice template, IF I wasn’t a member of the club already. With this I mean that if I hadn’t seen anything like it before I would have thought it was quite nice. But I have already seen this template. Joomlart have already created it. And taken a lot of elements and graphic with it. This bothers me. Not the fact that it seems simple or the fact that it has 1400 lines in the css.
What is bothering me is that not even the graphics has been changed. This seems to me just like a “modification” of an existing template, the way I would modify it myself. What I would expect however is a completely new look. With new graphic elements and new look and feel. EACH time.
So yes, sorry to say, for the first time in Joomlart history I have to agree with the people critizising with the templates. I have always felt that it is possible to have different saying as to what you like/dislike but when it comes to copying “same” templates as before with the same graphic, this doesn’t add any value I think.
I truly hope that the next release will be something absolutely new and different. Not just changing minor details but thinking about “something new” altogether.

Hi Hieu, Thanks for your explanation and defense of JA, we appreciate loyalty and feedback.
I and others can appreciate the need to reuse some code, Yes why not? It’s efficient use of resources and time. But what you are ignoring is the fact this particular template is so much like Senecio with elements of Utahia it really cannot be declared a ‘new’ design, that’s what everyones criticism is pointing out.
Had you declared it to be ‘Senecio 2’ etc we would accept it as a remake but to say it’s a new design, do the wait 2 days countdown before seeing it etc etc is a disappointment.
I understand the need for very basic , simple templates but guys this is so basic I could have made it, we as members expect very professional templates from JA, this is so basic, the professionalism and wow factor we expect as members just isn’t there this month.
Sorry i I have offended JA but I want templates that don’t look like I, ( an unskilled, know nothing about template making) have made it, That’s why we pay JA to make them for us? ๐
Your 2 cents and raise you 5 cents ๐

December 6, 2007 at 10:01 pm #234068Why not just produce ONE template a month…then youโre not under so much pressure, and you can promise Quality over Quantity.
I liked this month templateโฆvery clean. ๐
But its more people than me that pay your wages.

December 7, 2007 at 4:14 pm #234110The newslight module is new isn’t it? Thats another tool too.
December 7, 2007 at 8:17 pm #234120I agree with the comments regarding the lack vision in this template this month.
I also agree 100% with the concept of reusable code and CSS — but design wise a big let down and as most have pointed out, it’s not a new design but really a reshuffle of old.
On the support side, I’m still waiting for replies…… in ja_mageia for J1.5 RC3, there were some simple errors made in the programming, simple as a “/” missed out….. Could I get a reply, no!! I had to search through the code to sort out myself…
The other bug bear is that for templates for J1.5 RC3 —- it is not that simple to create module positions…. so the template is really not useful for anyone without understanding the Joomla code….
I’m sure Joomlart will come back with some good templates in the new year, I hope so, and I hope there will more for J1.5 —- other’s are…..
