You have 2 ways in joomla to add positions

1) Manually write position name in position field for module
2) Add your position name in file templateDetails.xml in positions section in this way

<position>yourpositionname</position>

    Another issue i have concerns the space between the mainmenu elements! i would want to reduce these space to get all the elements on the same line and get a with background color.

      1) Content-mass-top position :

      You can kindly view the documentation excerpt for Module titled - JA Sidenews Module following which you can also see back-end settings for configuring the same. This will help in further course in configuring and setting up the specific module for respective position

      2) Contentslider position :
      Kindly find screenshot for the JA content slider configured for specific position as seen in demo site.
      Documentation for configuring the same

      Also, You can install quickstart package as this will give you replica of the demo site which you can customize and configure further accordingly for particular extensions, layouts e.t.c.

        Please, my problems did not concerns how to configure modules as describe in the quickstart package, but how to find the positions when i installed JA University Template T3 on an existing websites!
        In the list of template positions, I can not find positions that are called contentslider, navhelper whatever the layout i choose.

        For the space between mainmenu elements, i will created a new topic as ypu said.

        Your help will be appreciated to find them.

          In case these positions don't show in dropdown list of position option inside module settings, you can open the file:

          root/templates/ja_university_t3/templateDetails.xml

          And add these position like this: http://prntscr.com/jdjexw

          <position>department</position>
<position>content-mass-top</position>
<position>contentslider</position>

            If it is just add these code in the templateDetails.xml file, why i cannot find somethings like that in the same file of the quickstart package?? while these positions are in the dropdown list of position option inside module settings of the quickstart.

            I can see both the positions - content-mass-top and navhelper in your dropdown from position selection while going to any specific module

            Infact, You have assigned module to content-mass-top as seen in screenshot taken from your site

            Nevertheless, If the specific position is not seen, You can add it in templateDetails.xml as suggested by @saguaros and follow the excerpts from documentation here primarily for Step#4 wherein you can also enter the position manually and press enter.

            The respective module in specific position should appear then if already seen in pre-defined block layout of specific template and also, depending upon the configurations/menu assignments

                Yes, that's the problem I have. But as you said indeed i have the postion contentslider in the template layout when i selected home. But in the module setting i cannot find it. The others positions are there as you said.
                What can cause that because i checked in configurations/menu assignments but i am not able to find something there.

                Please help me with this contentslider position;

                    As you can see from screenshot below contentslider position is available in your template layout

                    If you want to assign a module in that position simply write 'contentslider' inside position field
