You can share the credentials here or send to sales@joomlart.com (remember to include this discussion link in the email), it's better with a closer look to investigate issue further as I try to test this in my own side but it works normally.

I have a similar issue.
504 error not 500.
JA Multilingual a few month ago worked regurlarly.
I updated joomla! to 3.8.7 and virtuemart to 3.2.14 but I don't know if that is the problem.
I also updated JA Multilingual to the last version.
Can you help me?
I don't know if some timeout is changed in the server configuration.
This can be a JA Multilingual problem or I have to ask to my web server admin?

seems it only has function of giving success msg and creating a bunch of blank items.

Somehow I missed this discussion and apologize for the same. I guess it due to the settings in the component: https://www.joomlart.com/documentation/joomla-component/ja-multilingual#component-setting did you try the same. I also tried to access your site with provided info but it seems that you changed it already. Kindly update it again and I will help you out.

At this moment, your site contains the translated items (which don't have title), could you help to review and uninstall these translation and I will try to proceed to translate again?
And pls expand your Bing translation service as one of the reason that cause the blank items is your Bing account reaches the limitation of the service.
