Hi. In 2016 I asked in the JoomlArt forum if you guys could update the JA Kranos template and make it responsive. One of the JoomlArt admins - Joey - emailed me and said: "I've received your request of reponsive layout for JA Kranos template via JA forum, let me know if you're still interested in this.''. I said "Hi. I am. Do you work for JoomlaArt?" And he replied "Yes, I do." And from there he agreed on a price for the work and I paid him what he requested.

He spent over a year to deliver the responsive template, and it was full of bugs! At the end he stopped replying to my emails, and I hired a freelancer to install the broken template on three sites I needed it for. The freelancer managed to install it and fixing tons of bugs in it. But I am still having problems with it. I don't know whether your support can cover this, as I don't know if he did the work privately or on behalf of JoomlArt, but he presented himself as he was doing it as a JoomlArt admin, so I hope you guys can be so kind and help me out.

There are 2 main problems:

  1. Whenever joomla is updated, the template crashes, and needs to be fixed. And to do that in sha Allah the past I used the freelancer I mentioned. Can you guys please look into the issue and fix the bug that crashes the template when its updated? By crash, I mean it just gets messed up.

  2. After Joeys work, the K2 articles did no longer work properly. Whenever I hit the save button from the admin, it just loads and loads untill the site crashes. Then it comes back after a few minutes. The same freelancer I used to fix the template, also fixed this bug, but after updating K2, it came back. So if you guys, please, can help me out, I would be so gratefull.

I have backed up the site.

    starlight Hi

To be precise, You may kindly share some screenshot showing the layout after updating the template specifically showing majorly the sections seen to be not appropriate. This should probably enable us to try and troubleshoot the relative issue more appropriately

Thx. Please look at the extra link I added in the "site url" area. Its a video that explains all the issues related to the template breaking after joomla update. I.e. relating to my point nr. 1.

starlight Also, Kindly confirm if we can try to update the Joomla version to try and troubleshoot the relative issue

        starlight Hi

Kindly take akeeba backup of the site as it would be more feasible and convenient to deploy and try to examine the relative issues on local install by deploying the site on local and doing needed comparisons

I can do it tomorrow. Or you can do it if you think that would be better?

starlight I can do it tomorrow. Or you can do it if you think that would be better?

You may kindly do it yourself and let us know when done so as to enable to download the latest download package and deploy it on local

When I try to install Akeeba Backup, I get this error.

starlight When I try to install Akeeba Backup, I get this error.

You can try the steps outlined here here for installing FOF 3.0

In some cases Joomla! forgets to install files for the FOF 3 library used by most of our components (Akeeba Backup, Admin Tools, Akeeba Ticket System and others). This could mean that even removing the directories above you could still be unable to access your site. If this happens, try the following solution:

I have installed Akeeba, and taken a backup that you can download. But there were some warnings that I don't know what mean. If you want you can take another backup to be sure, if you don't think its nescery, the backup is there ready.

starlight For some reasons, The backup isnt getting restored on local.

Having reviewed for relative issues as seen in screencast, You can try add this to template.css file ever since there are some CSS rule-sets coming from bootstrap stylesheet which are conflicting :

              .navbar .container{width:1170px !important;}
              .top-social .custom{padding:5px 10px !important;} /* adjust padding value accordingly */
              @media only screen and (max-device-width: 1200px)  {.navbar .container{width:970px !important;}} /* adjust width value accordingly */

Kindly ensure to clear your browser cache if changes dont reflect

You may kindly let us know as to how it goes after adding above CSS

Thx. I can't see any change, do you?

If needed I can send you backup from our host, or I can do a backup of one of the other sites where I am using the same template.

starlight Thx. I can't see any change, do you?

You may check now as I have added the above CSS in the file in isolated folder : "/local/css/custom.css" in template "kranos2"

starlight Should I remove the code from the template.css file?

Yes, You can as nevertheless, the CSS code added there isnt getting applied

Will have further look at the remaining issues and try with best of ability in finding resolutions as the template has been customized and modified to good extent which invariably brings in several code changes

Yes, You can as nevertheless, the CSS code added there isnt getting applied<

I have removed it. But I noticed I made a mistake while adding it. I added it to "ja_kranos" in stead of "kranos2". So that may be the reason it was not applied.

Will have further look at the remaining issues and try with best of ability in finding resolutions as the template has been customized and modified to good extent which invariably brings in several code changes

                Thx!

If it is of any help, I can also send you the ftp and login details of the working site where joomla has not been updated.

starlight I can also send you the ftp and login details of the working site where joomla has not been updated.

Yes, You can update the details of working site in edit fields which should make the task easy to review in depth by comparing the code reference for relative issues as seen in screencast

I have now updated the details in edit feilds.

starlight Kindly check as it seems that the site with latest Joomla version has been removed from edit fields. You may add it too so as to enable me to review both the sites simultaneously

                      starlight Hi

You may try add the CSS as mentioned below :

                      .row{margin-left: -15px !important;margin-right: -15px !important;} /*fixing sidebar block going out of alignment*/
                      .navbar-nav > li > a{line-height:30px !important;} /* adjust value accordingly for getting menu-nav height right */

however, As I had been trying to debug for further CSS declaration variations, Your site returned with this error as shown in screenshot . Kindly review

I have whitelisted your ip. Please try now.

I don't have access to my mac before thursday. So I will add the code then and check.

                          starlight

Pls whitelist IP from India and Vietnam so we can access your site and check for you.

aman204 I have added the CSS in the custom css file. I don't see any changes, do you? It may be that Joey has put the custom css file out of order, and that is the reason template fixes get reverted when updating joomla.

starlight There are 2 main problems:

                              1. I check your site and see that the frontend still displays correctly, could you detail the issue here?
                              2. I go to Backend > K2 > edit an item > then Save, it also works normally (screenshot)

starlight Hi. It's rather strange You are getting problems in so many areas which are not related with each other. Have You compared Your server settings with joomla requirements?

What PHP version are You using? What are memory limits and time execution limits in php.ini? Is Your database optimized and up to date?

teitbite Can I provide you login details to hosting panel to check?

We are running PHP 7.1 and all Joomla requirements are met.

starlight Hi. I do have it. I remember from way before that You had some problems with site caching which were preventing me from doing any changes to the site. Do You remember that I had to ask You to disable it each time I was trying to fix a problem on Your site. I believe this may be a reason after that. Please disable it and try if problems are still there.

Also if there were other developers changing files than it may be another reason and I would recommend to restore joomla, template, extensions with their original versions. But remeomebr to keep the overrides.

teitbite Hi. I don't think there were any problems, its just that I am using cloudflare, and it needs to be set in develepment mode some times for changes to be seen. And it automatically turns development mode off after 3 hours. Any way, that's not related to the K2 issue, but I have set it to dev mode right now to test. Its the same. As mentioned, this issue happened after Joey worked with the template. Then we hired a freelancer to fix it, and he did. Now that K2 recently released an update after a long time, we updated. And that brought back the issue. The same way the template got messed up after updating Joomla. So Ithink there is something in the template messing up things when updates are performed.

To restore things will it not most likely complicate things as updating does? To restore the template is definatly not a solution because it is not responsive.

starlight I have added the CSS in the custom css file. I don't see any changes, do you?

Even, I am unable to see the CSS getting appended due to which changes arent reflecting although the earlier suggested CSS is appending fine. As @teitbite also suggested, You might require to disable Server side cache which isnt letting changes to append.

aman204 I have disabled cloudflare for the site now. Do you see any changes now? I don't.

starlight I have disabled cloudflare for the site now. Do you see any changes now? I don't.

The CSS as suggested is seen appended now. Ref: Screenshot of the element which appears to be right

aman204 Then I guess that css didn't fix the problems I mentioned in our communication.

starlight Then I guess that css didn't fix the problems I mentioned in our communication.

To be more precise and avoid confusion/ambiguity in addressing your queries, Kindly provide specific screenshots marked with annotation showing the relative issues being encountered after updating Joomla Version as mentioning several issues in screencast becomes quite difficult to address on individual basis

The CSS provided recently should fix two of the relative issues as shown in screenshot
