Hi Guys,

I am using quite an old version of buildR and would like to update the template to the latest version, however when I install it I lose my settings. Can you advise the update process and/or point me in the direction of the documentation which advises this?

Thank you in advance.
Donna

Hi Donna,

I'd always suggest doing a backup before updating any template or large component
If any changes have been made outside of the settings or the customisation methods listed by Joshua these changes would be lost

To update - download and install the latest version via the standard Joomla installer (after backing up)
It will install over the top of the previous version

Cheers
Paul

Hi Guys,

I did do this, but all of the module positions were lost after updating, even then after re-selecting my custom theme, the design tab in the template was blank, thus I would need to re-add all of the positions. This was my problem. I then re-uploaded the old 'settings' folder from the older version of the template to see if this would add the module positions back in but it did not.

Do you have any security extensions installed?
It is possible if the extension isn't configured correctly it won't allow the template to correctly save or update
e.g. sh404sef or admin tools for example

    Hi Guys,

This is a very basic build, no security extensions installed. As mentioned we use this as a basic launch site before we customise it so there are very few extensions installed.

I have tried once again, backed up the site, opened the template, saved the 'view' (which i havent done before) saved the template, installed the new template and again went to the template settings and it is empty. I received an error advising 'There is an error in your themes saved data, loading system defaults' as you can see here. The design tab is completely blank. I am installing version 1.3.7.

    Hi D,

Can you add access details for the site?

    Thanks
    Paul

Hi Paul, thank you. I have added them to the post. Please feel free to do as you wish with the site, as mentioned this is only a base build before we customise it.

I look forward to your response.

    Hi D,

I get the same when installing the template

The template does take a very long time to install - is there a lot of stuff of the server?
You do have caching options enabled which I've disabled

    Hi Paul,

The site has it's own cPanel account on a shared server, I do not have any issues on other sites on the server. However, I have created an instance of the site on another server with another host and the same issue occurs. I have rolled back this site to prior to the update so it is a fresh install of the site.

I have updated the site url in the credentials section, the login details are the same, so you can test on this other server.

    Hi Donna,

I have downloaded and installed an akeeba backup of the site and it works without any changes from me
Have you checked the server log?
Are you able to increase the memory available to the site?

With "However, I have created an instance of the site on another server with another host and the same issue occurs." - what amount of memory is available on this site and have you checked the error log on this one as well?

    Thanks
    Paul

I've updated the template and framework to latest version - unfortunately it has lost the settings
Are you able to revert it back and I will try again

Thanks for your patience on this

    Cheers
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

I have reverted it back - If you select the backup called 'Backup before template update' this should revert it back.

Thank you for your time looking into this.

    Hi Donna,

Can you view the site now and test saving changes in the admin

I have also updating Joomla on this test site to check there were no problems with that and the template / framework

If the site is looking good I will explain what I did so you can follow this process

    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Yes this site seems absolutely fine so if you could advise the process i'll gladly make a note for future use.

Thank uou for your support on this.

    Hi Donna,

For this to work - you need to save the preset and the layout with a short unique name with no spaces or special characters

Once these are saved the update does not affect these files

Are you familiar with how to save and rename the layout / preset?

    Cheers

For any other reader of this thread

Save your own named preset here - typing your own preset name with no spaces or special characters
